After he had alighted from the boat he was on, Shiba made his way over to a less crowded area of the harbor and sat down on the pier, facing out to the sea, his shoes kicked free and safely placed on the planks beside him. He smiled to himself, an expression of idyllic peace as he thumbed through the leather bound journal. Well, finding Chika here was certainly unexpected. Shiba had frankly expected a permanent death after being taken away by the shinigami. But who knows? Fortune favors the wicked, and here he was, un-alive and about again ( ... )

Reaching to harbour, Chika looked about him for the familiar face, his brow still furrowed. He would have to remain on his guard, especially now that he was without a weapon. However, perhaps too much caution wasn’t safe either and, trying to relax and act casual towards the situation, the white-haired zombie started walking towards the water-front, eyes still peeled for Shiba.

He found him a few minutes later, sitting on the pier with his bare feet dangling down. Something stirred in his chest for a moment, seeing him there; something nostalgic and slightly painful. They had always been such good friends, all through grade school. He couldn’t even count how many times they had spent their free afternoons together, perhaps bunked a few classes if Chika was feeling adventurous and they had always, always gotten along. He had been rather popular in school, being a player in the soccer team and all, but Shiba had always been the one he liked to hang around with the most ( ... )

Upon hearing his name called, Shiba smirked and then schooled his expression into that of surprise before glancing back, as if he had sincerely not expected Chika to turn up. After all, after that huge argument over the journal with this old friend and that Shito boy, could he expect any less?

"You're here," Shiba breathed a sigh of relief and then grinned, patting the space beside him that was not already occupied by his shoes, implying that Chika should take a seat. It was like the old days, camping out on the roof top, their legs dangling precariously over the edge. Was it really that surprising for Shiba to choose to leap to his death, as compared to other methods of suicide?

Did Shiba look… relieved once he had seen him? Perhaps. Judging from the conversation he must have read between him and Shito (as well as the threats his partner had so bluntly thrown at him), it was likely that he hadn’t trusted him to come. Or to come alone. Somehow it managed to make the white-haired teen feel guilty. What if he had really been controlled, or had truly forgotten the errors of his past? What if Shito was wrong? That meant that he was now just good old Shiba, right?

Nodding after some brief contemplation, Chika plopped down next to the other onto the pier and gave him a glance. He looked just like he remembered him; the insane grin, the hungry spark in his eyes gone, as if they had never been there. “I said I’d come, didn’t I?” he said, not quite sure where to start up a chat.
