Peony hadn't been able to sleep.
His body was tired, but his mind was alert. Not a good combination. After washing the grime and soot from his tan skin with a wet cloth, he had sprawled onto the bed. It felt like he had been staring at the ceiling forever, willing himself to relax.

It hadn't worked. He had a hard time sleeping by himself. In Malkuth he had kept the rappigs in his room for a reason. They were a soothing presence, at times when he felt completely alone. When he was a child he had carried around a stuffed animal, it was more or less the same comfort.
Jade wasn't a rappig or a stuffed animal, but Peony felt safer with his childhood friend beside him. At least usually.

Lately it felt like Jade was becoming distant, like Peony understood him less. There were so many thoughts and worries in his head, that it was impossible to close his eyes.

When the door opened, he felt relief.

Jade stepped in the room carefully, attempting to muffle as much as possible the sound of the heels of his Malkuth standard issue military boots on the wooden floor. He was grimy, but the public baths weren't open at this hour... the result? He was covered in dirt and soot, which, for once, actually was rather providential as it hid.. other things... as well.

Peony was sprawled on the bed, sleeping?

Jade took off his jacket, then sat on the opposite bed and started to peel off his boots.

Peony was most certainly sprawled on the bed, but not sleeping.
That became obvious when he sat up, his blonde hair a tousled mess about his tan face. He smiled tiredly to Jade, yawning lightly and stretching.

"You must be tired." That was a pretty dumb statement, considering the time and the fact they had both been fighting fires. "I couldn't fall asleep, I was worried you had broke a nail throwing dirt into the flames." Peony wanted to see Jade laugh, wanted to forget about the angry little display that had only occurred an hour or so earlier. He didn't like when he acted so.. ugly.

"I'm bone-weary", answered Jade as he removed the second boot, "And my back aches. Not from throwing dirt, mind you, you know full well I wouldn't do that physically, but from all that ridiculous dancing."

He slid his gloves off, and dropped them on a pile on the floor before unbuttoning his black shirt.

"My clothes are filthy", he sighed, "And to think I had them cleaned especially for the party."
