WHO: Kanda Yuu and Lenalee Lee WHAT: Lenalee tries to execute a very dangerous plan to help everyone. Kanda has other ideas. WHERE: A rather isolated dock at the edge of town WHEN: Late at night
For the first time since he had been here, Kanda was not feeling as uptight as he had been. Perhaps it was because he had just purchased a new katana. Something about swords calmed him, made him feel more like himself.
So, with two katanas now at his disposal, Kanda felt it was time to go outside the city. To see just how threatening these "monsters" the Queen had talked about really were.
He paused when he saw a flash of ebony hair in the moonlight from the corner of his eye, and spotted Lenalee leaving for one of the docks. He frowned. What was that girl up to? Was she acting rash again?
Without another thought, he followed her. When she stopped to untie a rowboat from the dock, her intentions suddenly hit him hard and he had no choice but to take action.
"HEY!" he called sharply, glaring at her as he quickly approached the dock. "What the hell are you doing?"
She leapt into the air. The power wasn't enough to carry her clear into the sky, like before, but at least she could get over his head -- and aim a kick at the other katana.
He answered her attack with one of his own. Flicking the katana into a different position in his palm, he made a wide arch, hearing the metal scream against the sole of her Boot. There was a small shower of sparks as he pushed with all his might, sending her flying backward. He followed, jerking the katana out of her other hand and leaping out of the way before she could regain her senses and kick him again.
She spun around in the air, thrown completely off-balance. Worse, the gravity-defying effects of the Boots weren't lasting long in this state, and she had to brace herself for a sudden landing. She ended up in a crouching position on the ground, facing his back.
Which gave her a lot of leverage, and an advantage.
She launched herself at his back with her full momentum, tackling him like a linebacker and sending him sprawling toward the ground.
He turned around quickly, but it was too late when her body slammed into his back. At the last possible second, he grabbed her leg to take her down with him.
She landed full on top of him -- no, not just on top of him, *straddling* him, with her hands on his chest. She just froze in place for a long moment, just staring down at him, breathing hard from her exertions.
For a moment, Kanda stared up at her, a little caught off guard. He suddenly pushed her off of him, rolling out of the way. He crouched on the ground, both katanas back in his hands. He could see, even at this distance, that she still seemed dazed. "Focus," he snapped, bringing her back to reality.
She took a deep breath, gathering her concentration about her, and launched herself into the air again. She couldn't tackle him like she had before, and she was mentally kicking herself for not grabbing the katanas when she had the chance. She could, however, hope to utilize her speed to grab one of the swords mid-air, and she made a grasp for his hand, her fingers closing over the hilt.
He got her right where he wanted her, using his other hand to grab her other arm and throw her up and over his head. He slammed his hilt into the small of her back in a punishing hit.
Kanda gasped and coughed as he was thrown backward, slamming to the ground. With a snarl, he slowly stood back to his feet, breathing heavily. She was going down. That's all there was to it.
He rushed at her and started swinging his katanas in a seemingly wild fashion. There was nothing wild about his moves, each carefully calculated and delivered.
She watched him coming toward her. She'd seen this kind of thing before. She'd have to time her move to the precise second . . . At the precise moment when the blades would have struck, she leapt into the air, somersaulting away.
He jumped after her, throwing himself upward as far as he could go, at the same time dropping one katana in order to free his hand to grab her ankle. He landed, swinging her back to the ground.
As she landed on the ground, she shot out a hand and grabbed the dropped katana, rolling out of his grasp. She leapt up to her feet, aware that one of Anita's precious hair ties had come loose. She reached up and yanked it out, putting it in her pocket, leaving her hair streaming unbound down one side of her head.

The other hand pointed the katana at Kanda.

"Think you can handle it?" he taunted, the corner of his mouth turning in a slight sneer.
