This is why I still go out and perform at the Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco

A little over a week ago, a friend (who used to do Renaissance Faires, many years ago) asked me if I still get anything out of doing Dickens Fair after all these years. He sounded a little skeptical when he asked. After all, I commit myself to not seeing most of my chosen family or even getting any downtime every single weekend from mid-November ( Read more... )

Not that you really have a lot of free time to do this in advance, but last weekend I packed a small soft cooler with lunch and snacks and enhanced water stuff- mostly stuff from Trader Joe's ready-made section. It's healthier and cheaper than the food booths, and you don't have to wait in line. Downside is that it's not hot. Eating is important! Don't forget to eat! :)

Unfortunately they've put the Rats greenroom space in the former trash bay-- the one that you have to go outside towards the parking lot to get to. It's not a bad backstage area, it's actually quite civilized, but I don't have enough time between gigs to get through the crowds and then across the street to get back there so bringing food doesn't help me. I mean, I have a few munchies stashed back there, but I only get to nibble on them while getting dressed and then right before the drive home. In the past I was able to stop by the greenroom on my way from one stage to another, but not with the new site layout this year.

As the weekends progress, and the lines get longer, if you are stuck without food during your wink of a break, come over to Fezziwig's and I'll pinch you some from our larder. :)

Thanks for the offer! *smooch* It's almost as hard for me to get across site through the crowds over to Fezzies as it is to get to the greenroom, though. If things get really dire I will start stashing munchies in the Bruno Academy, but there are so many people there and so little space I don't want to encroach if I don't have to. I already feel a little bad that I'm keeping my bagpipes there and taking up what little room they do. I will definitely not starve myself, though. I work too hard when I'm performing to be one of the idiots who plays that game. :) Self care = important!

You should see the utility garter belt in person. The leather is like butter, and it's just an incredibly gorgeous piece. It's by Skingraft Designs, and I drooled over it for two years before finally caving in and buying it.

Well I suppose that explains why I only briefly caught a glimpse of you this past weekend. :)

We've generally got room in the chocolate booth if you want a more central place to stash a snack so you can grab it while you're on the run to your next show.
