punctuation stuff

This is a post in a writing blog that is entertaining and has some useful information about using punctuation when we're not sending tweets or texts to our friends. I think you're right about the verb tense in the first sentence. And I saw a sentence that should have had its two independent clauses separated with a semicolon rather than a comma. But other than those two places, this was spot on. It's sad that all the problems discussed here could be prevented if only grammar and punctuation were taught in schools.

I'm not sure about that. They are taught, just not in enough depth to keep things from going wrong. :) I think she was more worried about finding intentionally misused punctuation in formal writing than she is about the actual rules for proper use. You do see a lot of creative punctuation in fiction writing - most of which probably seemed like a good idea at the time, but is just annoying to the reader. I think that was her focus.
