A county out from me, a man was killed by his two pit bulls. Head-butt doesn't sound so bad.

That's horrifying. It's even more horrifying when you stop to think about what it takes for pit bulls to attack people. They have to be trained to it. It's possible, I guess, for a person to be intending to train them to do something else, but it's simply not a thing that a pit bull raised like any other dog would do.

The inherent character of a pit bull is eagerness to please, high energy, intelligence, and endurance. The aggressiveness we think of as being a pit bull characteristic is secondary to a more general personality set, which can be molded either towards or away from aggression.

They do go all out to give you exactly what you tell them you want. If you raise a pit bull the way you raise a pet dog, you get a pet. If you raise a pit bull to be aggressive, you get a very aggressive dog ( ... )

His neighbors said the dogs were nice -- they petted them when they were out -- so the police are trying to figure out what happened.
