I started work on Saturday. So far there has been lots of time to knit while listening to directions and waiting for people to figure out how to log on to various systems. I have a list of 15 username/password combinations to log into said systems. I am able to follow directions and all my log-ins worked the first time, thus giving me maximum ( Read more... )

Hmm....we have a book called "tartan for me" that we use to find out people's clans. we also have a map of Scotland showing the various areas clans are located. a banner/sign with the name on it to i.d. the tent. Oh - and a sign with all/some of the names associated with our clan.

That's all I can think of at the moment - it's early, the meds haven't quite worn off, and I'm brain dead, though. I'll keep thinking on it!

Banner is taken care of, there is one that will be sent to me on loan from the national group. I have "Clans and Tartans of Scotland" by James MacKay. It is not as extensive as some other resources that I have seen, for instance it only has one of the tartans associated with Menzies. Do you guys have your own pop-up or do you rent? Amost all the clans seem to have the same white pop-up so I was wondering if most people rent. It certainly would be nice to have it all set up and ready to go when I get there. Less to carry is a good thing.

I understand about the pain meds. I just don't take them anymore unless I am in agony. Most will no longer work if I take more than a week straight anyway, so I feel it is best to ration them out for when I really need them, and then only to help me sleep at night. Then there's the side effects that I can live without.

"tartan for me" isn't a tartan book -it's a book with bazillions of names listed, with the clan(s) they are associated with. We use it to help people find their "family".

It's pretty pricy - I think it was $40 last time I checked - but you can find them on eBay sometimes. Soon as I have some spare cash, I'll be getting myself a copy for Me.

We have our own tents - I don't think they rent those, just tables and chairs. Again, eBay or the discount places - our clan National office will reimburse us for those. I think they run $150-ish for the white ones like we have.

Other things: battery operated fans. Wal-Mart under $20. They were a life-saver at Arlington. Ice chest. Stuff to prettifiy a table.

Jill runs us on a shoestring, and some of our members help out, too. You'll probably get help, once you've made yourself known.

Oh - and there's a TXScot list at yahoo you might hunt for - it seems to be mostly regional/local directors, and they have lots of good advice/ideas. Some of it's drivel....*g*
