It has nothing to do with strength.

No? It's not just like picking names out of a hat, is it?

...I'm not sure. It might be, for all the sense it makes. Last time they only wanted Usopp, Chopper, and Brook from our crew.

But... the whole crew works well as a team, right?

I don't think it's about strength. It looks like some of the people who got drafted couldn't fight, so there's probably more to it.

Either way, don't worry about it! I'm sure you're strong enough to protect your friends. Besides, real strength's not about how good you are with a weapon; it's what's inside that counts.

I don't... actually use weapons. I understand what you mean, though! But a good amount of fighting ability's still needed for certain things.

Why would they draft people who couldn't fight?

Not everyone does! There's a ton of different ways to fight, and you're right about some skill being necessary. All it takes is practice, though! Anyone can learn to defend themselves.

[Hmmm, that's a good question.]

That's what I wanna know. I guess it could be random, but wouldn't it be better to take volunteers? I'm still new here, so I don't really know how it works.

I've been here a few months, and I doubt I know any more than you.

Definitely not. [Echoing Zoro there.] They sent kids, this time. And a whole range of people with no combat experience whatsoever.

risingspirit December 16 2010, 10:26:07 UTC
Why would they do that?? Don't they want people who can face their enemies properly?

mikangirl December 16 2010, 12:37:21 UTC
You'd like to think that. Apparently it comes down to "compatability", and who will survive being Shifted into the battleground.

I don't get any of that.

[dryly] "Compatibility".

..."Compatibility"?

Mmm. That's the word he used.

It has more to do with Shifting than strength. Few things work very practically around here.

I've noticed that.

It's impossible to figure this place out, isn't it?

Strength doesn't matter. They've taken nonfighters before.

That's what I'm hearing. You'd think if they were bringing us here to fight for them they'd only pick ones that could really help them out.
