but the stars really do exist

So, this is pretty off the cuff and jumbled up, but I really felt the need to share my thoughts on "The Big Bang" and the season in general. Warning: There is word vomit under the cut.

Doctor Who 5x13 and S5 overall )

I was hestitant to call series 5 my favourite of the modern series, and even after the finale it feels weird saying so because I don't have much perspective. But it's my favourite. I'm calling it. And Eleven is my favourite Doctor. Lovelovelove. I think that other series had stronger individual episodes, but this one was the best in creating a great overarching storyline that didn't always make sense but it was always compelling. Cap it off with Matt Smith as my absolute favourite Doctor, Amy Pond as a brilliant, feisty companion, and Steve Moffat's writing (which I've always been partial to) and you have yourself a winning combination. I totally agree with you on your best/worst episodes, but even the weaker ones had some good bits in them ("Victory of the Daleks" had jammie dodgers and the lulz of iPod Daleks, and "The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood" had a couple of good Rory moments ( ... )

This whole season... Matt and Steven were so on the nose when they called it magical, because that's what it was. The overall feeling and tone throughout the whole thing was so, like you said, compelling as well as enjoyable. I just want to mine Moffat's brain and see what other brilliant things he's got going on in there ( ... )

Oh it's from the Confidential! I haven't seen it yet, which I should remedy immediately because it's always a goldmine of ridiculosity and adorableness.

I agree with everything, especially the Rory part. When Amy tried to kiss the Doctor, I was like lol whut?! Rory waited 2,000 years for her! But I do maybe feel like it's the "people I'd like to do if I ever get the chance."

I really loved what Moffat did with the wedding adage. The Tardis being 'borrowed'! and omg the scene with the Doctor carrying little Amelia and talking to her was the best. also, yes to two Amys. "Come along now, Ponds!" I loved Amy's Space Florida outfit too, I wished the Doctor was wearing tropical gear too.

I hope by starting your userpics from scratch means new icons from you! Especially of Doctor Who variety!

Yeah, Rory being relatively cool with Amy and her constant hitting on the Doctor is puzzling, to say the least. Then again, he knows that the Doctor has been such an important figure in her life, so maybe he's okay with her getting her kicks so long as she's with him in the long-run? IDK.

That TARDIS bit was so simple yet so elegantly done. Love it so much. And I don't know how awards work over in the U.K., but if they're anything like the Emmys, Matt totally needs to submit this episode, specifically the scene in Amelia's bedroom. That was such a gorgeous performance, from top to bottom. Haha, the Doctor in tropical gear would be the best.

I'll have less free time once school starts, but hopefully I'll get the creative juices to make new icons.

Anne. Annnnnnnne.

You've said everything in such a perfect, lovely, intelligent way that I never could with all of my CAPSLOCKY ABANDON AND ZOMG KEYSMASHES OF FLAIL.

THANK YOU.

Also: I'm so fucking glad that you love Eleven and Amy and Rory and River so much, because it physically pains me when people hate on them. Far too much awesome and preciousness and BAMFERY.

I mentally composed much of this while doing the dishes. I find that that's when I usually come up with my best ideas, hah.

Question is, how can you not love them all? Like, I'm usually the kind who's reluctant about change, but I embraced them from the first episode because they are so funny and smart and brave and kooky, etc etc etc. My only complaint is that there aren't enough episodes in a season to satisfy my appetite!

It's bathtime when I'm best at composing entries, LOL, I totally understand.

So many people hate on Amy and it makes me REALLY REALLY ANGRY. They claim that she's nothing more than a plot device, or a slut, or that she's annoying. Um, WHAT THE HELL? Just because she wears short skirts and likes to flirt with people does not make her a slut -- it makes her a confident girl who enjoys to flaunt what she's got. And while she does facilitate the plot, um, ALL GOOD CHARACTERS MOVE THINGS ALONG. That doesn't mean she's 2-dimensional -- she's fragile and sassy and a fighter and just a little girl inside who still dreams, and I love all of that about her ( ... )

The slut comments make me so mad, especially when most of them are based upon how she dresses. You would think that in this day and age people would be more enlightened and less quick to judge people by their appearance alone.

Ugh. I really hate the argument about how not being able to connect to a character means that you should hate him or her. We all have different personalities and we all come from different walks of life; it's okay if there are people out there that we cannot connect to, but that alone isn't grounds to actively dislike them. Yeah, Amy is a complicated person, far more complicated than any other companion we've encountered thus far. It's also part of what makes her human, and if haters want flat, uncomplicated characters who can be summed up in a simple sentence, well, I just feel sorry for them.

oh, s5 is definitely the best of them. it's just so brilliant because the arc spans throughout the whole season, and it's not just "bad wolf" plastered randomly, but real, "need-to-think-about-it" clues as to what will happen. and upon second viewing this finale is growing on me.

however, i still feel a bit cheated that the doctor got out of pandorica so easily! for some reason it should have been harder, but no, they totally made it like...this minor thing in the episode!

edit: totally forgot to add this and it was the reason i commented - YOU'RE SO RIGHT ABOUT MATT SMITH. with all due respect to david tennant (who i love so very much) but matt smith could be my favorite doctor now!

I know, after having watched the finale, I want to marathon the whole season and pick up on all of the bits that played a part in the end.

It is a bit disappointing now that to mention it, but I'm not too bothered by it since the episode was mainly about sealing the cracks and restoring the universe.

Matt is just so good at this, and he makes it look so easy! He's just a marvel to watch.

I've always sort of fanwanked that Rory just sort of accepted that Amy is in the shows words "mad and impossible" and does kind of have two boyfriends/husbands and is just happy to be one of them. I think Moffat said that Amy is a two man kind of woman so I just kind of run with that.

And on a more selfish and superficial level, I'm concerned that Rory being a full-fledged companion is going to mean a dramatic decrease in Eleven/Amy hugs and forehead kisses. What can I say, all of those little moments made the season for me.
Ha, right? I'm love Rory and am truly excited it looks like he's sticking around but! Yes, I still want a lot of forehead touching/kisses and general cuteness from Amy/Eleven. I CAN HAVE IT ALL! (I hope)

I'm just so grateful that Moffat and the other producers saw something special in him and wanted to share his talents with the rest of us. Matt Smith, you and the Eleventh Doctor are my Doctor, and I can't wait to see what adventures lie ahead. This is exactly how I feel. This entire series has just been such a ( ... )

Yeah, I can see that. It'd be funny to see the three of them sit down and work out the details of their relationship. Like, what kind of privileges does Amy get with her second "husband"? LOL.

I know, please don't take the cuteness away from us, Moffat!

It's been just a wonderful, thrilling ride from top to bottom. I was never nearly as invested in this show as I was this year, and it's amazing how much I hold it dear to me now.
