but the stars really do exist

So, this is pretty off the cuff and jumbled up, but I really felt the need to share my thoughts on "The Big Bang" and the season in general. Warning: There is word vomit under the cut.

Doctor Who 5x13 and S5 overall )

It's bathtime when I'm best at composing entries, LOL, I totally understand.

So many people hate on Amy and it makes me REALLY REALLY ANGRY. They claim that she's nothing more than a plot device, or a slut, or that she's annoying. Um, WHAT THE HELL? Just because she wears short skirts and likes to flirt with people does not make her a slut -- it makes her a confident girl who enjoys to flaunt what she's got. And while she does facilitate the plot, um, ALL GOOD CHARACTERS MOVE THINGS ALONG. That doesn't mean she's 2-dimensional -- she's fragile and sassy and a fighter and just a little girl inside who still dreams, and I love all of that about her.

I think the biggest thing about Amy and why people don't like her is that she's largely been an enigma all series. We're all so used to immediately understanding and connecting with the companion, and this time it was the Doctor we connected with more. So people hate on Amy because she feels more like the outside, mysterious character. Which is totally unfair. Of course I want as much development in regards to her character and motivations as the writers can give us, but we don't need to have everything spelled out about her like we did with Rose or Martha or Donna in order to love her as a companion.

The slut comments make me so mad, especially when most of them are based upon how she dresses. You would think that in this day and age people would be more enlightened and less quick to judge people by their appearance alone.

Ugh. I really hate the argument about how not being able to connect to a character means that you should hate him or her. We all have different personalities and we all come from different walks of life; it's okay if there are people out there that we cannot connect to, but that alone isn't grounds to actively dislike them. Yeah, Amy is a complicated person, far more complicated than any other companion we've encountered thus far. It's also part of what makes her human, and if haters want flat, uncomplicated characters who can be summed up in a simple sentence, well, I just feel sorry for them.

One of the truest things ever; I concur 111%.

THIS. OMG THIS. I WANT TO TAKE THIS COMMENT BEHIND THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND GET IT PREGNANT. Amy Hate grinds my gears, and I agree so much with everything you said about the slut shaming (Booooo. And I fear it will get worse with her "kiss the bride" and "make out in the shrubbery" comments. Come on people, lighten up) and disliking her because everything about her character hasn't been laid out for us. I find her lovely and fascinating and HILARIOUS so haters to the far, far left.
