This Really Is The Last Time I Put Him In A Skirt, I Swear.

It's the last ever episode of Merlin tonight! I'm simultaneously excited and a bit concerned; I'm worried that the writers haven't left themselves enough time to tie everything up in a satisfying way. Still, I'm prepared to give it a chance. If there isn't a good magic reveal, I may cry.

Everyone in Princess Tutu needs to make out. I'm just ( Read more... )

I somehow doubt this will be the last time you put him in a skirt - I mean, there's all of the other festive holidays coming up... like Easter ...I vote bunny outfit for Easter

I know her name in the original Japanese version is Ahiru, but a lot of the settings are based around a German/Belgium town, so I think Ente might be a more excusable translation for the English dub. But I figured that the cast referred to her as Duck as more of a nickname as opposed to a name.

YES, I FIND CALLING THIS GIRL 'DUCK' MORE BIZARRE THAN THE FACT THAT SHE IS ACTUALLY A MAGICAL BALLERINA DUCK.
I'm still trying to get around the the fact that she's a magical duck that transforms into a human that transforms into A MAGICAL MAGIC GIRL/BALLERINA DUCK. I've still put the DVD series on my wishlist despite these concernsAlso, for a while, I got confused as to what the call the white-haired guy. Apparently, his name is Mytho, but I'm sure the dub called him Muto (or, as I heard it, Mewto - one letter away from being a Pokemon? I think so ( ... )

As it happens, there's an item called the 'Bunny Parka' - a parka with rabbit ears on the hood - that raises Joshua's HP. And only Joshua's HP. If anyone else wears it, it does nothing.

(There's also an elegant red dress called 'Dragon Lady' with an ability that only activates if Neku is wearing it.)

I also got confused over Mytho/Mute! I quite like Mute as his name, but according to futuresoon it really should be Mytho, so I suppose that's straightforward enough. Ahiru/Duck/Ente, alas, has no consensus.

... Why do I still not have this game?! ;A; Damn you, unemployment!

I'm probably going to call her Ahiru, just because of the fact that it's her 'original' name, but I still love the idea of calling her Duck.

I too thought 'Duck' was a bit silly at first, but the dub won me over, if only through constant exposure to the name. Since the dub is in English, 'Duck' is the only one that makes sense, because there are several times when it is directly pointed out that that is her name. E.g., Mr. Cat repeatedly saying "Miss Duck" while she isn't paying attention and her broodily thinking "that's right, I'm a duck"; this could be used with 'Miss Ahiru' or 'Miss Ente', but the repetition of 'duck' makes it flow better. (Also, 'Mr. Cat' instead of 'Neko-sensei' makes a hell of a lot more sense in a non-Japanese town. Japanese honorifics are not often used in Germany.)

Besides, the name 'Duck' seems much less silly in comparison to names like 'Anteaterina'. Yes. That is the anteater's name. Puns are hard to translate.

I do not oppose everyone in Princess Tutu making out, however. Well. Maybe not Pique and Lillie. (Pronounced pee-kay and lilly-'ay as in yay', incidentally.) But the four main characters can make out, yes. In the name of friendship.

I am so glad to hear he's called Mr Cat in the dub. I was recently thinking 'I wonder what Neko-sensei is called in the dub?', swiftly followed by '...I hope it's Mr Cat.'

E.g., Mr. Cat repeatedly saying "Miss Duck" while she isn't paying attention and her broodily thinking "that's right, I'm a duck"

This happened in the fifth episode, and it was the first time I'd really seen the merits of calling her 'Duck' in translation; nothing else would make sense, really. So I think it's right that the dub calls her Duck, but I'm still resistant to calling her Duck myself. We'll see whether that changes! When I first started watching The Mentalist, I went from 'calling Patrick Jane "Jane" feels a bit weird' to 'why would anyone ever call him anything else?' within the space of two episodes.
