You don't need hands as long as you have cards. Maybe you can attach the cards to the stumps of your arms and use them as tongs...

Ah, an excellent plan! It may impede typing slightly, but it's good to know I have options.

Ahahaha, Dean really would hate England, wouldn't he? Thank you! (And good luck with your essay!)

Thank you! (To my infinite amusement, one of the ff.net fics appears to be Mark Corrigan/self-insertion. I mean, all right, I might unwisely enter into a relationship with Mark Corrigan, given the chance, but I can't say I was expecting to find self-insertion in this of all fandoms.)

Nooooooo, you can't send David Mitchell to Silent Hill! That's too cruel! Okay, so Mark is a character and David is a real person, I still feel it's a valid reason.

And the boiler problem sucks, we had that a few years ago. I think I resorted to going to bed early and wearing my bathrobe all the time.

I briefly considered actually sending Mitchell to Silent Hill, and then I felt like a horrible person and dismissed the idea.

At the moment, my strategy is 'live in the room with the electric heater, sleep on sofa cushions'. I'm so glad we at least have the heater, because otherwise I would have to move into the oven.

See now you're making me want to watch Peep Show properly even more (i.e. not a random episode from series 2 or 3 or whatever) because I think I have a kink for things along the lines of a "co-dependent, inescapable love-hate relationship of two men" (add in some immortality and occasional strangulation and that's pretty much Koschei and Grigori's relationship).

LMAO at "'Broken glass? Potential for injury? I can't send him to Silent Hill if he'd enjoy it.'"
I had a similar thought the other day about Derren Brown and something or other and thought about writing it, only now I don't know what it was regarding, which is either terribly sad or a great relief depending on what might have resulted if I could remember what it was.

Well, if you're a fan of co-dependent love-hate relationships, Peep Show will certainly provide. I am genuinely fascinated by the Mark-and-Jeremy relationship. They ruin each other's chances of happiness constantly, and yet there's a lot of love between them; Jeremy in particular can't cope with the idea of Mark leaving him at all.

If you remember the Derren Brown idea, do let me know what it was!

The trouble with Peep Show fic is that I'm convinced that I could never come close to sounding as much like them as you do. This may be influenced by me only having seen three episodes, but you're brilliantly and intimidatingly IC. And most people probably do get slightly put off by the lack of fluff and Jeremy's tendency to ruin Mark's life on on a regular basis.

Dropping Mark into Silent Hill - yeah, that might not do much. Although, he could find himself stuck with a Maria-ish woman who wants him to converse sensibly at all times, and is sexy and a bit cool, and prone to needing protection from monsters and making him feel bad that he can neither chat her up nor properly keep her safe.

Pfft, I am sure you would be great. You are always fabulous at characterisation! Perhaps you'd need to watch more than three episodes, but if you ever turned your hand to writing for this fandom you would undoubtedly be fantastic.

The more I think about it, the more ineffectual sending Mark to Silent Hill seems. If I want to torment him, all I need to do is write about him going to work or having a conversation.

Still, Mark's a lot harder to write than Jeremy Clarkson. Instead of "Fire, speed, fire, hammers, fire, explosions, fire, shouting, and fire!" it's all weird neurotic panic.

You could sit him in a small quiet room with a comfortable chair and a nice cup of tea, and have him go completely to pieces due to his inevitable conviction that it'll all go horribly wrong.

You see, I actually find Mark quite easy to write, possibly because I have a fair amount of neurotic panic myself. Then again, Jeremy Clarkson is more or less my opposite, and when I was writing Top Gear fanfiction I don't remember having too much trouble with him.
