The Freedom Trail is definitely on the list. I didn't even think about the swan boats. We'll have to read the Make Way for Ducklings book prior to our visit! Thanks, Cat!

The Freedom Trail could be a lot of schlepping for the kids. (Also, I thought it was a snooze. I'm not much of a history buff.) I vote for a DUCK TOUR! The Children's Museum is great for both kids and adults, and there's a Boston Tea Party boat right next door that I think you can climb around on. The Museum of Science is also pretty cool. You might also check the trolley tours - they may have the kind of deal where you buy a ticket that lets you get off and on at any point in the route all day long, which could be a fun way to get around.

I second (third? fourth?) everything beah says (the Duck tours are awesome!). Also, get somebody in the Boston area to pick up an Improper Bostonian for you, they have an awesome section on kid stuff with lots of things you otherwise wouldn't hear of.

You could see the USS Constitution. I've never done it, but I keep meaning to...

The Museum of Science is always a favorite. And the Duck Boat tours start/end there - bet everyone would love that. You can get often discounted passes to a lot of museums from your local library... and if your local library doesn't have them, mine does, and I'd happily get them for you.

I'm getting the subtle hint from those in the know that I should bring everyone to MOS! Thanks for adding your two cents :)

for your future consideration, if you want to think about driving further north, the Lowell Textile Mills have been turned into what I'm told is a fabulous museum. hits the "history", "quilting", "antiques", and "architecture" buttons, but it's another 45 minutes north of boston :)

And the New England Quilt Museum is also in Lowell.

Hmmm. That might have to be a separate visit. Which is great. I might give them directions, pack them a lunch, and give them the keys to the car! Can't imagine the girls will be terribly enchanted with the textiles!

Thanks for the suggestion!
