So I've put some thought to it and I feel like the best way to express this is to write it, not post it in a hurt-fueled status update on facebook attacking the person who said it first, I did after all pose the question.

I've had the attention accusation leveled at me as well. It was an especially cheap shot as it referred to my emotional state after the death of my wife as "excessively mopey".

Such comments are not intended to be constructive and the most positive response that is possible is simply to pity the commenter for their helplessly unfocused anger and lack of empathy.

The problem I have with this is if it is a post about your Facebook account or your personality online it's not fair. Your Facebook personality is only one side of a person. You could be a totally different person than what you portray on Facebook. It's so not an accurate reflection of the truth. Plus it's YOUR Facebook account and honestly YOU can say anything YOU want to say. There is nothing wrong with being yourself online and anyone that doesn't like it DOESN'T have to read it. It's their choice to read it ( ... )

Feh on them. You participate in activities that bring attention to yourself, sure, but you don't scream "LOOK AT ME!" in everything you do. There's a difference.

If they have an issue with you doing the things you enjoy, then they must be pretty miserable.

I agree with nixxfey; it's not constructive criticism, so try to ignore it.
