Feb 15, 2006 13:26

The grounds of Ringmore Suites extend quite far, for all that it is centered in Tamarind. The gardens are seperated by low box hedges, carefully trimmed into perfect rectangular shapes. The closest garden to the hotel is a formal affair, an English garden with perfect geometic shapes bordered by perfect stone paths. In the chill of late winter, ( Read more... )

He brushes a stray lock of hair back, his eyes black with desire for her.

not her, you daft bastard...this one isn't yours like the other

Cupping her face in his hand, so warm, so very familiar it makes him ache. "Nothing at all, dove."

He swallows hard, longing to kiss her, to taste her Grace, "Things just never work out as one plans, what?"

Okay, she's feeling that familiar ache and sensation that she remembered from so long ago,

She looks up into his eyes. "Talk to me, Anthny. I can feel you, you know. "

"It's nothing, lover, er, love. In my time you, well, we...erm...You died, you see. I got you with child and even with your powers you weren't able to..."

He brushes a soft kiss across her forehead, and looks down.

"She's quite beautiful. Like you. We called her Penny, after your grandmother."

He swallows hard and holds her closer.

"I'm so sorry, Phoebe. I can feel regret, you know."

Phoebe feels herself collapse against Crowley as the news penetrates her mind.

Dead? With child and... dead?

Tears fill her eyes and it's a good thing he's holding her or else she would collapse.

"I died..."

Phoebe is tempted to challenge him, but then she gets a feeling of such anguish and despair flooding through her from him. He ws hurting so much over what had happened to the her in his time.

"Anthony... were you... were we... happy...? Did we ever..." She swallows. There is so much she has wanted to say to him, but this is not the time.

Holding her closer, as close as possible, he closes his eyes against the anguish.

"You were happy, dove. I was...as pleased as I could be. But none of this now. It hasn't happened yet for you, and may yet not, from the way I've seen things go around here. Chin up, poppet."

He sniffs and clears his throat, realeasing his embrace and gripping her shoulders.

"You're a strong girl. Strong enough to take me on more than once. You...stay the course, right?"

Phoebe nods and looks into his eyes.

"Ah yes, I have many times gotten right into with you. I'll be who I am, I always have." She smiles sadly. "I'm not going to die on you, Anthony," she whispers. "We've only just got here."

Do not tell him about the attacks...the danger...not tonight.

"Sweet girl, what a treasure you are." His hand strokes softly down her arm, and he smiles.

"Tell me of you, now. The whelp is gone, yes? Left you heartbroken for the last time? Or has your life been so much different?"

"You know Cole has been with me since we left Fandom," She says with a faint smile. "He hasn't broken my heart again, I promise. He was given a death sentence because he refused to kill me. For the last five years we have been running or hiding because of that choice, dearest. We decided a long time ago that there were fights we'd have between us, but we'd select them carefully. I don't think I'm wrong when I say he won't be half as glad to see you as I am."

She squeezes his hand and looks into his eyes. "I'm happy to be near you, Anthony... but if it will be too difficult,,,for any reason, I can do my best to stay out of your sight." Her voice is sad.

"Oh, precious...no. Let me see you while I can. I've no idea how long I'll be here in the city. Best to make good time, right? Whether the boy likes it or not."

Phoebe nods and hugs him.

"I'll stay, dearest, and I'll talk to him. I have no desire to leave... and as said, I have missed you quite a lot."

"You are a dear treasure, Phoebe. I've been remarkably cruel to you, you know. You'd be wise to run from me...I never understood why you didn't. Witches, it's always witches. You and Kiki, incomprehensible."

"You've been cruel, yes, but you've also managed to teach me things about myself and limitations that I otherwise never would have known." Phoebe smiles at him. "I liked you before the agreement, you know, and in the time since then, the feelings have becone what they are. I could spew pretty lies about why I never ran, but as you told me once, lies do not become me."

"Lies still don't beome you, pet." He smiles and chucks her chin with light fingers. "One day I'm sure you're loathe me, call it a premonition. But for now forgive me if I delight in your presence. Let me pretend for a moment that I was a less than wretched husband and I made you a happy bride."

Phoebe nods at him, a little confused and a lot curious abut what life had been like for him and his wife, but she doesn't ask.

"I have no prblem with that, Anthony."

Same Phoebe as ever. So gullible, so easily manipulated.

He pulls her close, holding her so softly as the wicked sneer curls his mouth into a cruel twist. Eyes dart to where the shadow of the whelp stalks off.

"Most beloved Phoebe. You're devotion is a prize I don't deserve."
