Xbox Live Initiates Pro-LGBT Stance

Mar 05, 2010 14:06

The closet is opened: Xbox Live welcomes LBGT signifiers

Maybe it's just a small tidbit, sure, but it's a step in the right direction at least, especially in context.

video games, gay

Wow, really? I made it years and years ago for this old web game called "Nation States." It was my country flag.

Later on I decided to co-opt it for LJ use, because I kinda liked it.

Well, since I love the "kitsune" kanji, it looks just like a fox! :) On the rainbow flag it's just awesome!

The inclusion of Transgendered as specifically a sexual orientation bothers me. But other than that fact, I liked it.

Yaknow, the whole thing of Transgendered not being a sexual thing =p

Yanno, as a TG person, I popped in here to pretty much say the same thing.

It's like
"What's your sexual orentation?"
"Male."
"Buh?"

I also find it kind of weird that they'd include both "gay" and "lesbian," when "gay" encompasses both.

Not in popular usage it doesn't. "Gay" as implying "male" is pretty commonplace. Technically erroneous, sure - but it's not MS screwing up here, it's a whole bunch of other people.

A little late, will they unbanned gays they banned before? Will they actually enforce against the 13 year old who sling the word around offensively. Time will tell, I don't hold high hopes.

Sweet. I'm gonna go set my orientation to "lesbian." B)

Also, I see you have 狐 in your icon. Do you know Mandarin?

No, but I know Japanese, and it's the same character in both languages.

Neat! I just learned something new. :D Where did you pick up Japanese?

I started studying it in college, like... oh, wow, was it really over ten years ago? I guess it was. (Oh, god, I feel old...)

But yeah, then I studied abroad in Japan, then I was an English teacher in Japan, and now I work in international business dealing with Japan every day.
