Whether or not he was loony (though I think his question was quite reasonable; witness at the end Kerry's attempt to answer it), his words and actions in no way merit tasing.
Justin, if you had a beef with someone and asked a sincere question, would you be happy if you were treated that way by "authorities"? Step back for a moment and view this incident as a data point on our society's growing trendline toward fascist authoritarianism. This isn't about one person and it's not about what we think of him, it's about the response that non-mainstream, out-of-the-box, "radical" thinking provokes these days.
True, he may have been over-the-top in the way he chose to frame his argument, and true, that is definitely not the best way to promote an open and free exchange of ideas. I simply think that the University police response was also over-the-top and misguided; why not simply shackle him and remove him? Were they so drunk with power that they decided they must make a public example of him and stun him with a taser
( ... )
I got up and walked away during the tasering. I want to vomit. That's absolutely revolting. He was talking, and Kerry was willing to answer. Tasering was an over the top response. I saw this right away when you posted it, but it's 1:18 now and CNN has only had it up for 49 minutes. WRONG WRONG WRONG.
I can not express how upset I am with so many aspects of this. It's just so... Wrong.

Kerry even told the cops "just let me answer his question"

Planned and executed, he got the attention he so sorely desired.
