So, yeah. Another reason why I'm liking this country less and less. My partner just read a news article saying that two companies, Union Pacific (railroad) and some lawn goods maker or something, won't hire you if you smoke. Also, a couple of clinics in Ohio, I think, won't hire and make you take blood nicotine tests

This was a thought-provoking post. I looked this up on Google when I read it, and they gave reasoning about insurance and such and money problems (of course). Though it only makes sense that hospitals be a little critical about their employees in this regard; it makes them hypocritical if they say 'Don't smoke' but then their doctors/nurses/etc smoke. And tbh these tests prove squat, because you can go cold for them then resume them. I never thought they were very reliable since they're not going to do them regularly and they warn you beforehand if they do it at all later

I don't see a problem with hiring coverage cost if you smoke, but...
Well, currently, most jobs want you to avoid mentioning affiliations such as "Berkeley Buddhist Temple Luncheon Club Chairman" or whatnot, but if they're going to choose random discriminatory fiters like that, "What's next?" Is kind of what I'm saying.
