The Scooby Doo / Doctor Who Connection

A few posts back, I mentioned how the Doctor Who RPG could be easily ported to a Scooby Doo game. The thoughts haven't gone away, and I realized how similar the shows actually are.

Fred, Velma and Daphne are The Doctor. They find the clues, make the plans, solve the mysteries.

Shaggy and Scooby are The Companions. They kind of wander around, getting in trouble, scream really loud when in trouble and eventually need to be saved. (Also, I suspect that Shaggy and Scooby would love fish sticks dipped in custard too.)

They (meaning the Scooby Gang or The Doctor + Companions) travel around in a funky outdated vehicle. I could make a joke about how the Mystery Machine is bigger on the inside, but let's assume it's not.)

They travel all the time from exotic location to exotic location, never stopping to put down roots anywhere. (I wonder, what is it back in Coolsville that they are all running from?)

They never show up anywhere planning on having an adventure, but wherever they go, they're needed to solve a problem that the locals are incapable of handling.

Despite their lack of credentials, local authority figures let them take charge on whatever needs doing.

Et cetera.

Part of my brain started writing fanfic where the Scooby Gang is visiting scenic Cardiff and run into The Doctor. (Originally, I was thinking Ten by himself or Four and K-9. But Eleven and Amy Pond are closer in age (or apparent age, in the case of Eleven), and there could be some whacky hijinks with Amy and Daphne getting captured or something. Then, I realized that I hate Scooby Doo episodes where the monsters are real. Now, I suppose something could be done where it really is a Guy In A Mask behind it, and I can accept that the Scooby Gang did team up with Batman (and Blue Falcon, for that matter). But the Doctor tends to run rings around normal human villains, and I don't want to break my own Rule of Scooby.
