I have some ginger nuts and possibly the ingredients to make buttercream but I can never get the consistency right. Do you have a recipe/ratio of ingredients that you would recommend?
Honestly, I just chucked it all together :) The buttercream shown is far too thin for the gingernuts, really, but throwing them in the fridge for a while made a lot of difference. I think I used a very rough ratio of 1/3 cup margarine (I used Vitalite, but this tends to be a bit too soft) to 1 cup icing sugar, with 1 tbsp custard powder and some vanilla thrown in for good measure, but it all varies a lot according to which margarine you use. If I make them again I'd use the tiniest amount of margarine to start off with, so that once it was all mixed in it made a kind of fudge-like consistency

There is a vegetable shortening called Pura that's available over here. Confusingly, it doesn't say "shortening" on it but that's how it was described on a soapmaking site I found... x
