Okay, I just got off or work so I'm feelin' kind of blah, but I did watch The Golden Compass last night with some buds. I'm not givin' away any spoilers, but just a heads up for all the Phillip Pullman fans out there, the movie did not follow the books. Make whatever you want out of that. And generally I have noticed that screenplays of books almost always move too fast. I think it's because they're trying to cram a whole book that may take a week to read into two hours of screen time.

Since you've already read the book series, I'll just say if you want to see it, wait for it to come out on dvd.
The director was also the person who adapted it for the screen and he fucked up. Don't get me wrong, the people in the movie are great. You couldn't ask for a better cast, but he didn't do the book justice. Iorek the armored bear and Lee Scoresby were the best things about the Golden Compass, everything else was really rushed.
The audience didn't really have time to connect with the other characters like Seraphina and the Gyptians whose roles were very small in the movie, imho. Also, the movie did not have the same ending as the first book, so I heard a lot of groans in the theater about that. Plus they kept calling the daemons, demons. Not a smart move on their part ( ... )
