Ugh, you guys. First it was Superstorm Sandy that wiped away part of Casino Pier in Seaside Heights. Now Funtown Pier in Seaside Park, in the next town that is attached by the Boardwalk, is on fire. A six-alarm fire now.
They covered it on the national news, because it hasn't even been a year since Superstorm Sandy washed everything away, and what was left has been completely destroyed. It's hard to see childhood memories vanish in hours.
The rumor is that the carousel has been destroyed, but nobody seems able to confirm it yet. If it's true, my heart will break all over again. The carousel was practically the only thing left standing after Sandy, even when the carousel arcade around it collapsed. :(
Oh, babe, I am SO SORRY to hear this. I know how devastated you were after Sandy and the hits keep coming. I welled up just seeing the pictures and then I went looking for whether the carousel had survived. I was so sorry to see that it hadn't. I watched the video you linked to above and when they started talking about being 'Jersey strong' and how they were fighters out there on Boardwalk, I broke out in goosebumps. I've never been to Jersey and this still is so upsetting, at least in part because I know how much it means to you. /hugs/
Aw, thanks babe. The carousel was in this building and surrounded by an arcade that had also been there for years and years until Sandy washed it all away. The carousel survived. but here we are not even a year later and that's gone too. The funny thing is that you didn't even have to live on the Jersey Shore to have it be a huge part of your life. I grew up in Northern New Jersey, but taking trips down to the Boardwalk were commonplace. My mother spent entire summers there when she was a girl. Our whole family has ridden that carousel at one time or another

Man, we spent so many summer nights there. I can't believe the devastation of the past year. It breaks my heart.
