The Oz Big Bang

May 05, 2009 12:58

The oz_big_bang writer sign-ups end on May 11, and for the life of me I haven't been able to come up with an idea worthy of 25,000 words. I kinda wish this had been bandied about like two or three years ago, when I was in the height of my Oz love ( Read more... )

wtf, personal rantings, frak, oz

Why, oh why, don't you write in the SGA fandom? Deathfic, no sex, lots of dialogue? That all sounds just fine to me. I'm quite bored with so many writers only fulfilling the needs of the vocal many and wish more would write what they really want! There's always an audience, you just have to wade through the whiny ones that always want happy slashy endings. :P

Wait, isn't all SGA fandom about McShep, all the time? Like, doing sexay things? I never watched the show (other than the one ep where crazy doctor guy had a woman's consciousness inside him and then kissed the Scot doctor guy, and it wasn't even hot, sigh) and I could never really get into the writing. Plus, since it's an offshoot of SG1, there's too much history to understand.

It's like back when I wanted to watch Angel and discovered that it would be pointless unless I caught up on Buffy too.

However, your idea to wade through the whiny is inspiring!

I think that you should write what interests you, not what you think other people want. Check out the brainstorming post, or take a look at oz_paroleboard for ideas. Even if you don't sign up as an author, there are still plenty of ways to be involved, from beta'ing to creating art or music mixes to cheerleading and support.

I was actually looking at those, trying to come up with something worthy of 25,000 words. That number is so daunting though!

It seems most writers already have ideas!

I have the exact same problem as you, but add it the fact that english is not my own language :(

I was reading about that at the comm. I don't know any other languages, but even so, I would be petrified to try and write in a language not my own.

As I said, I wish this had been proposed three years ago. I would have been able to come up with an idea!

You sound like me! A couple of my favorite stories have been dialogue only! But I'm looking to the Big Bang as an opportunity to challenge myself and push myself to try the things that I don't feel comfortable with. And I'm really going to be counting on people to help me!

I'd see it as a challenge too, but I know myself and unless I have an idea I'm passionate about, it would be a nightmare. Forcing yourself to write just to get to word count is no fun at all when you don't have a solid idea.
