decisions for the future

I've had plenty of time to think about how I would like to raise my child since I decided to start ttc (8 months and counting), here are some ways that I have decided that I would like to raise my child:  (I decided it was a good idea to write them down, since I'm coming up with new things all the time)
- I am definitely going to breastfeed.  After ( Read more... )

Well, this all makes me very excited, of course. :D I am going to help you as much as I can with the breastfeeding. I don't think you'll have a problem, though. It just takes determination to get past those first 4-6 weeks of adjustment and then it's pretty easy.

I am in total agreement with you about fast food. I am trying to go even further and get more organics and fresh foods rather than ones with preservatives. I'm not sure how successful I'll be but I've started to make the transition. The organics are especially important to me because I don't want to feed Jack stuff that has been pesticide-saturated or injected with growth hormones.

I see what you are saying about the schooling. Joe and I want to use public school for Jack, but we'll go with a good one and also supplement his education (you know how smart Joe is...). All in all, I think it's the parents that have the biggest influence on their child's education.

I've been reading a lot about breastfeeding, and while I know there is a lot I still have to learn, I know that I want the healthiest option for my child. After learning everything I do know, I find it amazing that mothers will knowingly disregard all the benefits, and decide that they don't have time (I'm not counting the mothers that can't breastfeed, or have a hard time emotionally, or are just ignorant).

I haven't really thought about organics. Mike and I already cook a lot of fresh foods (we never do frozen or boxed dinners), so we're good on that respect. I suppose it's not a bad idea to switch to organic foods.

I'm very lucky that you had a baby before me. I know that any question I have about raising a baby, I can ask you, and if you don't know the answer, I know you would know all the good locations to do research.

I think a lot of people don't do their research and assume that breastfeeding is going to be easy, and then are so shocked when it's not easy that they just quit because they assume it's not working and never going to get better. It's about as long as anything else - just like a new job or something, you can't go into it assuming everything is going to be perfect immediately (especially when it's something you've never done before ( ... )
