Gah, could not wake up this morning. Damn daylight savings time. Of course, it also didn't help that it was raining and chilly and just generally a good morning for staying in bed

it's always different (and I think good for the brain) to see how other people interpret and teach the dance. Have a great time this weekend and say hi to all :)
I definitely agree! And after being a teacher but not a regular student for a long time, I really needed to return to studenthood for a while. It's funny, though, because almost all of the studying I've done in the last 5 years has been in workshops rather than regular ongoing classes, and usually they've either been workshops in styles that I don't regularly do or that don't have so much structure (mostly folkloric or tribal fusion), or they've been straight ATS from Carolena and Megha. It's that fuzzy area where it's an ATS/ITS mix with some different stylizations and different-but-similar moves that bends my brain, both as a student and as a fellow teacher, and I find myself occasionally having moments of "nooo, ur doin it wrong." Then I remind myself to shut up and listen. ;)
I plan to have a grand time! Will say hi to everyone for you. :D
I would have liked to have continued to be a student when I was in Bloomington, but I kind of exhausted my local resources for bellydance. So I extended out to classes in other dance styles (hip hop, modern, West African, flamenco), and taking bellydance workshops when I could, though for the last year or two funds were too tight to let me do much of that. And I just didn't have the time, funds, or energy to drive somewhere farther away (Indianapolis or Lexington) to take classes regularly. But here, I'm the new kid on the block and there's a burgeoning bellydance scene, so I'm happy to just be a student and not a teacher while I'm getting to know the dance community here. I'd like to teach again at some point, but only if there seems to be a demand for more than one ATS teacher in this town; right now, there really doesn't.
Well, and in addition to getting her vocabulary taught in a systematic way if you stay in the level 3 class, you also get to watch her teach it.
One of the things that gets harder to come by when you're proficient at something is, getting to see how other people teach basics. And like you said, people teach really differently. If you think she's a good teacher, it might be worth stepping through the classes, just to get the chance to watch her.
So lovely that you are in such a good spot for bellydance.
Arriving late Friday night, leaving early Monday morning. Saturday will be mostly eaten with organized social, rehearsal, and the show; Sunday's a little more up in the air, aside from couriering some folks to the airport, but I kind of have to work around the schedules of the folks I'm traveling with, since, well, they're the ones driving me around and stuff.
