I speculated that this might be a Blade Runner set-up,

Maybe not, but they made a very clear reference to Blade Runner right in the pilot episode when Dorian and John sit in the street diner in the rain and talk. That's a direct copy of a Blade Runner scene, and stuck right out for me.
I am not sure what it means. It was probably just them making a joke, but I am not 100% sure they aren't going to go somewhere with this.

Yes, I noticed that. *g* They have several call-backs to Blade Runner, which makes sense; Blade Runner is impossible to get away from with any "android who feels emotions like a human" plot. I'd give a nod to the classic and its fans, too. I agree that it doesn't necessarily have to mean anything beyond what it is - a reference for insiders. An homage, in a way.

If they do actually go further with this, though, I will definitely be on board. There are so many wonderful ways that could go. And really, the binary they've set up will have exhausted its interest pretty soon anyway.

I actually had no idea what Live+7 and DVR ratings were until I googled it just now. :-) Now I'm really curious as to what factors go into how high the post-airdate ratings increase is...

Let's hope Almost Human reaps the benefits of its DVR ratings! I would love to know where this show can go if given the time.

No, I haven't tried Skyrim properly - well, I did start, but I was weirdly unnerved by the POV and my own arms flailing uselessly about. I also had no idea what was happening because I couldn't get an overview. So after lurching to and fro and running into walls for a while while things I couldn't see happened around me, I gave up. *g*

I should probably give it another try one of these days, huh?

I didn't knwo you played video games!

(I haven't been playing anymore lately, btw. I got stuck with both Mass Effect and The Witcher because I couldn't get emotionally involved; keep meaning to pick one of them up again, but lack motivation so far.)

I hear the show isn't doing terribly well in the ratings, which is a shame. Most people probably have the same issues with the show as I; it’s not bad but also not terrible interesting /innovating ( ... )

I agree that it isn't innovative in terms of what has been done in scifi before, but even so, I find it an interesting (though not new) concept that has a *lot* of potential left to explore. And a TV series format offers a great platform for exploring some aspects of the concept in depth.

I'm not the right person to argue that it's an impressive show; as of yet, I don't think it is particularly impressive, either. I do think it has potential. What it does with it... I'm more optimistic than not right now.

Yes, Dorian's actor is by far the better one so far (I also quite like the actors of Rudy and Captain Maldonado). John is a fairly "flat" character right now, which makes sense given his backstory and trauma, but I do hope we see some more from him soon, too.

(This actually reminds me of Grimm. It took me forever to make up my mind on whether or not the main character's actor could act on that show, too. *g*)

I agree with you on Detective Stahl, why does the only other female cop (besides kick-ass Captain Maldonado) has to be ( ... )

For example, they could have copied the original human John's memories into a synthetic body after the catastrophic raid that killed John's partner (and John, in this version), with the 2-year "coma" and the gaps in John's memory suddenly taking on a different cast.

My bet is on programable DNA. It's already canon, so why not go there? :D

But how would that work in practical terms? Programable DNA works with biological organisms - if they simply used it to repair John's body, he wouldn't be an android...

I may be missing something obvious, but I need a hint. :-)

I was thinking clone. That's not an android but it wouldn't be John version 1.0 either and it would be interesting in terms of what is human and what is almost human. A synthetic who has human emotions? The biological copy of a person? Both? Neither? (Or maybe that's just interesting to me. *g*)

Oh, right! I find clones a very fascinating subject, I just wasn't expecting any in a series focussed on androids. But sure, that would work!
