ladurée and black swan

This weekend was my last weekend before starting my second Semester on Monday. My last exams (oral exams) went well. Then, I had four lovely days to enjoy my break. I'm sure the next few months will be rather intense as I'll have a two-hour class on Saturday at 4pm which seems to me pretty odd and rather completely and utterly unbelievable (I've ( Read more... )

It's really interesting how two people can view the same film completely differently. I didn't think Black Swan was the slightest bit subtle. All of the characters were variations on stereotypes and I felt that Aronofsky really hit the audience over the head with the symbolism. That being said, the film was certainly mesmerizing. I just seem to like it less and less the more I think about it.

I think Requiem for a dream was much worse when it comes to things not being subtle. I don't admire Aronofsky but for some reason I never gave up on him. Black Swan is a great improvement. The film is based on the symbolism I think. That's what the film is about. That's how I see things. Life becomes the symbol of a ballet which has itself everything to do with symbolism. In the credits, every actor was : real-life character (Nina)/Swan lake character (Swan queen). That's really what Aronofsky wanted to do.
I don't know why people are being so hard on this film !

The only other Aronofsky film I've seen is The Fountain, which I thought sounded really exciting but it ended up being a total disappointment. I don't know, I just don't care for his story-telling techniques!

I haven't seen Black Swan yet but watched True Grit last night and absolutely loved it. It's definitely a must-see film, Morgane, I think you would really love it. The storyline is so engaging and the sparse landscapes are perfect. How are you enjoying the book??

Oh You did ? That's great to know ! I finished the book this afternoon and thought it was a great read. I love the place and time where it takes place. I'd read anything related to that "world". It's a bit of a satyre (the child trying to be a 'cowboy') so it was really unique. I'm really looking forward to seeing the film now !

Speaking of Ladurée, I have finally tasted them! My friend brought a few back from Paris last year and they are AMAZING. I've eaten ones made here in Toronto and Hong Kong and nothing beats the authentic Parisian stuff!
