Whine and Wine

Despite the heat, I have to say I had a lot of fun in the Yakima Valley tasting a bunch of wines. I think I really expanded my pallet for reds, which was my goal for the weekend. I know that I generally dislike Syrahs and that I'll probably always be a bit of a Merlot girl. I've got a thing for Pinots, but damn if I don't love that smokey dark ( Read more... )

OK, the wine blog is a stupendous idea, buts we gotta keep it a smallish group. And here's one for you: the best Pinot Gris I've ever had, at a winery (I shit you not) only two miles from the house I grew up in. Just down the hill, so to speak. I'll pick up a bottle for our next acquaintance. As for beers, gimme yer top three favorites, I'll give you 6 more beers to try (and I think you'll like at least half of em). Its too fucking hot here. mmmm...sweaty.

1. Walla Walla Wheat
2. Rolling Rock
3. Corona

Is "lambic" a beer? I think it's a beer. If that counts then the raspberry lambic I had on the beach was the best alcoholic thing I've ever tasted, hands down.

Lambic is a raspberry infused beer. I've had exactly one good one. But I'm not overly fond of fruity beers. Thats a tough one.

Reccommendations:

1) Widmere Black Raspberry
2) Widmere Hefeweizen (like the WW Wheat, but a little more beer-y, and a bit more edge, must needs drink with a lemon)
3) Pacifico (its the cheap man's Corona)
4) Pyramid Apricot Ale (going off the lambic bit, its one of the few fruit beers i like)
5) Deschutes Brewing Mirror Pond Pale Ale (10x more flavor than Rolling Rock, though that may just be a turnoff for you)
6...... gimme a few days .......

Colt 45 Malt Liquor is what we in the wine industry refer to as the Billy Dee Williams of alcohol. I, personally, would eat it with velveet, or government issue cheese.
