Last Wednesday was a beautiful Fall day. I knew it would be one of our last days of warm, sunny weather, so I decided to spend the day exploring the countryside. I had not been west of Syracuse this year, so that is the direction I chose. My first stop was at the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge, west of Auburn, NY.

Did you spend your growing-up years here also? Maybe that has something to do with our stewardship aspect for this region.

This was the first time that I have ever seen a Bald Eagle in the wild.
Now you know how I felt a couple of years ago when I saw the one peached in the cemetery next door. So cool. :)
I want those big pillars. :) lol...

I remember when you wrote about seeing the eagle in the cemetery. I was definitely a bit envious.

Unfortunately, the ones in picture 11 may go begging for a new home soon. :-(

We don't get eagles here, but I'm hoping one day to catch a glimpse of an osprey - they've been re-introduced to a nature reserve near here.
Wonderful collection of buildings. But yes, it must be so heartbreaking to see Ed's house decaying like that when you yourself have put so much work into saving old buildings.

Wonderful collection of buildings.
Thanks, there are plenty of great old buildings scattered around central New York State. Going out in search of them is one of my favorite activities :-)
It can be frustrating and heartbreaking though to find them in dilapidated condition, like Ed's place. I have made preserving historic buildings my life's work, but sometimes I feel like it has all been for nothing. See my reply to Deb above.
Sorry if I sound discouraged. Seeing the ruins of Ed's house has had quite a negative impact on my mood lately.
