Garden to Table

It was another gorgeous day today: sunny and unseasonably warm. I spent about an hour late this afternoon harvesting the pole beans (string beans) in my garden. I picked about a half a shopping bag full, and that was on just half of the vines. Lily hung out with me in the garden too. Several times she tried to grab a mouthful of beans out of my ( Read more... )

Sadly, I am not a big fan of beans. :(

WOW, that is a super cool story behind your bowl.
I would be so afraid of using it that I would break it. :o
I think that would be a dangerous store for me to live near. LOL...
I am kicking myself that I didn't buy some china that Disney was selling a few years back that was based on the Haunted Mansion ride. It looked really fancy, and wasn't overly cheap. But now of course they don't sell it any more. :(

Thanks, Jon!!

It is probably a good thing that the factory store is not closer. It is about a 45 minute drive from here. :-)

Sorry you missed out on the Haunted Mansion china.

I used to love fresh-picked beans, back when I grew them. They never taste quite the same from the supermarket.

Love that plate! Even the test pattern is so beautifully designed...

Really fresh vegetables always seem to be the best, particularly when you grow them yourself! :-)

Love that plate!

Thanks! It is distinctive, and a refreshing change from the usual floral patterns. The story behind it makes it even more intriguing.

Lovely beans! I've harvested all I need green and stuffed my freezer full. The rest I'm just letting dry on the vines to harvest mature beans. I've never had them with dill! I usually put summer savory into bean dishes. It's called "Bohnenkraut" ("Bean Weed") here since it complements beans so well.

I like that bowl! I really like pieces that have an interesting history. :)

My next step is to cut up and wash the rest of the beans. The really huge ones that have gotten all tough and woody will get saved and dried for next year's seeds.
Savory on the beans sounds good. I think I will try that tonight! Thanks, Alex!
