Angels, Intelligences, Spirits, and Planetary Talismans: or, Why I Am Now and Forever SPN's Bitch

Sep 30, 2006 20:54

ETA that I elaborated a bit more on what I understand about planetary talismans (in a John-specific way) here. Better and better-informed minds than mine may well be able to improve upon this.

I have HOUSE meta to write and HOUSE-related comments to answer. I have my Grim Noir Grimoire (my chatty little guide to SPN herbs and hoo-doo) to wrap up ( Read more... )

Firstly, I worship at your geeky altar of metaphysics. Secondly, I think I need to go buy a crapload of Golden Dawn/high magick books. Thirdly,

IOW, John Winchester had to seriously be one badass motherfucker above and beyond what we'd already known about him to do what he did in the season premiere. *bites lip so hard* I'm totally not the only one completely turned on by this, right?

Nope, not the only one.

Even before this massive post from you, I've been convinced John was high level in a magical lodge of one stripe or another. Or was part of one, got pissed off at the pansyboys in charge and went rouge, learning whatever he could from wherever he could.

And I would *KILL* to get my hands on his journal. Just to flip through it.

Great to meet you! There's not enough John-love for my liking, dammit, so it's always fantastic to hear from another Like-Minded Individual.

He's learned every damned thing he could possibly learn in his obsession to find the thing that killed Mary. I think having a knack for herbs and hoo-doo is something that Dean inherited from him, because I think they're both the sort of guys who just pick stuff up and can figure out on their own how to make it work, you know?

I totally agree that he probably did get training with some sort of ceremonial magician. In all likelihood, he pissed his teacher(s) off as much as they pissed him off and that, my friend, was that. Mostly, though, I suspect he learned the most practical stuff from Missouri and that's because she never had a problem with smacking him upside the head when he needed it. (Which, being John, was probably a lot.)

And, yeah, I'd probably just want to rub his journal all over me in a vaguely pornagraphic and decidedly TMI sort of way. :D

Hey! this is awesome. Would you considering putting it up on the Super-wiki? I already have an entry for the Sigil of Azazel... It might go in that page, or on a page of its own?

I'll be delighted to submit this to the Super-Wiki. I need to clean it up first and, you know, put more than three hours' worth of effort into to it. (And possibly remove the bits about needing to get laid because, hi, maybe a little more than the average fangirl wants to know. *g*)

Once I have this polished up a bit, do I ping you or just post there or what?

Great to meet you, btw. I've actually had the pleasure of getting to know you indirectly since I started coding the spnnewsletter. Feel free to drop by anytime. Cheers!

Whichever works for you - To be completely honest, I would be in fan-geek HEAVEN if you decided to make the Super-wiki your own personal sandbox *g* I think you'd probably have a better idea than I do about where information goes and that kind of thing. Yay wiki formats!

Seriously, the stuff you post on spn-possession would fit awesomely there if you ever had the inclination use Super-wiki to archive the great research material you provide us with!

Great to meet you too :D I have been awing you from afar for a while, mainly via spn-possession :)

See, now, I feel like such a dumbass for being all lost in my own head rather than checking my flist while I tried to figure out where the hell I knew that sign from. I'll confess, my academic kinks are as such that I tend to enjoy wallowing in alchemical texts (...as you may have noticed) which is why I didn't think to crack open the Books of Enoch and Leviticus until the various cool comments started rolling in.

I honestly don't think what I've pointed out about John's use of the Character of Saturn in any way contradicts this theory you mention. If anything, what it does is underscore the relevance of the symbol and what it means for the mytharc. Could Sam be Nephilim? Well, considering they are a race of half-human giants...*g*

I'm totally glad you dug this, baby. I had a lot of fun pulling these bits together. :D

Much as I enjoy the show, it's being able to share the squeeing with other folks that makes being part of the fandom so much fun. The Winchesters are Sexeh as hell but at the end of the day, having a good time with other fangirls is why I have such a blast getting my geek on.

Great to meet you! :D

Hey, my pleasure! I love reading about this sort of thing and it's been such a delight there are so many other folks in SPN fandom who dig it, too. Being able to flail over obscure alchemical info and build crazy-fun theories based on fuckin' Aggrippa is just ridiculously awesome. *g* I'm so glad you dug this. (I've been following your journal indirectly ever since I started helping with the spnnewsletter, btw. It's great to finally have a chance to say "howdy." :D )
