Wow. I've been paying more attention to Zahi Hawass ever since one of y'all brought up elements regarding his reputation of which I had been unaware. I realize one does nothing regarding antiquities or archaeology in Egypt without his blessing, but I still have to say the man is starting to scare me ( Read more... )

The first link is broken.

Since I'm giggling too much over Tut's relocated man-parts to think about Hawass, have a page of 12th-century Russian homework, complete with doodling.

*reads*

Gnaaah! Why is Egyptian archaeology ruled by a petty dictator? DO NOT WANT!

(and was anyone else creeped out by the Tut-unveiling article where he goes on about the "golden boy" and his "beautiful buck teeth"?)

Try not to get sucked into the Futility Closet - I discovered it yesterday and stayed up almost till dawn reading their archives...

linky, linky?

"This is the jealousy," Hawass says angrily, "of the followers of the evil god Seth."
Soooo, this dude thinks himself to be Osiris? Or maybe Isis? *shakes head* Either way, he's been breathing too much of the stale air in those tombs....

Fixed. I was pre-coffee yet already chock full of horror the more I kept thinking about how fucking dangerous -- and how fucking openly dangerous -- has become. And this totally uncalled public display of an unwrapped Tut? Hell, the fact that he's leaving Tut's tomb open at all at this point...it's...it's...god, IT'S AS IF HE'S A MODERN-DAY BUDGE.

*covers ears* Okay, I get it. You're not fond of the moron. *blinks* Wait, naked Tut? Ew... who wants to see 5,000 year old jailbait?

Did they actually reattach his penis? *snickers* Tut and his detachable penis. *wanders off laughing*

*hums Detachable Penis*

Let me start this by saying one thing:

I got frustrated enough with some knitting that I've spent the afternoon drinking. *nods* Just so we're clear.

I clicked the now working link and read the title of the story as "Asshat" not "A Hat is a Hat"

*facepalm with a side of drunken giggle*

"I originally thought of taking up a diplomatic career. But I failed the oral exam -- they were not convinced of my sincerity."

Oh dear lord. When they don't think you are sincere enough to go into DIPLOMACY...

I wonder if they need to use a magnifying glass to find HIS penis, too.

This guy? Totally smooth in front and rocking the Kenitalia. *shudder*

The other interviews with this guy and HIS EGO are equally batshit. He thinks Howard Carter did a good job in a lot of ways? The man who busted up Tut's mummy in the first place by trying to yank the gold mask off it? Holy crap.

You might have been the one to get him on my radar in the first place, come to think of it. This guy is completely out of control and there's absolutely no one (apparently) with the power to keep him in check. That? Does not bode well for at least the short-term future of any sort of work over there.

(AND TRAN FTW! :D )

That interview was from two years ago, no less. He's only gotten worse and scarier since.
