return of the neep!

My afternoon turned unexpectedly frustrating, but I mostly regained my Zen by getting my geek on. I'm delighted that current finds in archaeology are actually rocking out with insight into various bits of legend, magic spells, and other random stuff.

There's some cool stuff going on right now. And, of course, I totally mean by the chick who's looking for Bigfoot in Oregon. :D

Hey, if I were looking for Bigfoot I might start in Oregon, too.
Though I'll confess to being more interested in who's in the jars...

One of my favorite lines was this:

"An animal-creature mythological being," is how this field worker described the gaping, hairy 6-foot creature he glimpsed.

The rest of the world? Totally calls that "one of the hippies from Eugene." :D

That jar story is pretty cool, isn't it? I love those kind of "...WTF?" moments. Here's another fun one I was just reading, in which a skeleton long thought to be a monk's is likely a woman's bones. Good times.

Yay, Rome!

I can work the cave into my current WIP, which is hella-awesome.

FWIW, you have completely made my night. Thank you. I post this sort of thing with the hope of being able to help out other writers. I love that I actually did just that. \o/ Lemme know when your WIP is a W so I can read it, yes?

Heh. I've never written anything but short pieces, but this WIP is actually a novel in the vein of Jim Butcher/LK Hamilton, et al - present day with supernatural. I've set it in Rome, I've got werewolves, and I've actually written 54 pages - more than I've ever done for a fiction project. I'm kinda surprised at myself.

But yes, once I actually have a real draft I'll share *g*

Oooooh! Excellent! I definitely look forward to reading this when you've got a working draft. (Very cool that you've made that connection between the werewolves and Rome, btw. I'd never even considered such a possibility, even after reading about the cave yesterday.)

Oh god, ancient Rome and Egypt. You, you...You are my hero. I'll be checking these out tomorrow after class. Most definitely.

I figured I'd roll on back in with the, well, classics. :D Enjoy poking around -- you can totally rationalize doing so because it's educational. Wooo!

I actually thought of Child when I was reading through the wolf page. Specifically, I wondered if he'd dig the site and, well, if wolves might be sufficient to distract him from his Seperis Cloning Project.
