A thought

I've been thinking about Aikido. For a long time, I've wondered what Aikido would look like in a different arena of life---say, an argument or something. I think I might have figured it out... To clarify, I'm talking about arguments where people are actually mad at each other, and don't have much control ( Read more... )

Donald Schell, who's been practicing Aikido a long long time, recently wrote about the application of Aikido to other kinds of conflict, (I dunno, maybe you saw this and that was your inspiration). He had a slightly different take on this, writing "[Aikido] teaches gratefully receiving the 'attacker's' energy as gift, joining with it (so actually neither block nor evade), and at the highest level, you're working to shift 'attacker' to partner, taking the energy of a strike or grab/hold to guide partner to the ground and pin same without harm ( ... )
