No, they weren't Goat Heads - I thought they might be at first, but these things aren't sturdy enough to take out a bike tire. No, they're more like wheat grain, only smaller, skinnier and pokier. Kind of light whiteish-yellow, the grain itself is maybe a half a centimeter long with some with some grassy filiment thingies sticking out of one end. The plant itself grows pretty low to the ground, maybe about 6-10 inches high. I think it might be cheatgrass. http://www.bentler.us/eastern-washington/plants/cheatgrass.aspx
