I think he is in his late twenties. Might be 28 as the actor is.
Let's face it, in the movies he is much older than the rest of the X-Men who were his age in the comic. Even making him teen in Wolverine Origin won't help. He would be double as old as Rogue in the first X-Men movie.
^I like this explanation the best. (Hi all - new Gambit fan here!) Although I think it's a little generous to assume that the facial vs. no facial hair issue was a plot point rather than a garden variety continuity error.
Anyway, yes - the age difference, particularly between Rogue and Gambit, has been bugging me too. The actor is obviously in his late 20s, but the character, given the factoids presented above, could easily be much younger. That, plus the fact that all the other people they broke out of the facility on the island were clearly teenagers. Gambit must've been their age when they took him, too.

So did the filmakers just totally eff themselves with what they did re: Gambits age?
