I find R/T very difficult to deconstruct, simply because there's so much information we don't have. It could have been a hurried marriage in the heat of the moment, as sometimes happens during wartime. They could have truly loved each other and JK just never showed it. Remus could have been 'just doing the right thing.' I think it's impossible to determine, other than to say he did care about her on *some* level.

I say that, because I doubt Remus would have taken such a huge step as marriage just for the hell of it... it was too big of an issue for him. He had many, many conflicting feelings about asking anyone to marry a werewolf, which is why he behaved the way he did when he came to talk to Harry at Grimmauld Place. I addressed this more in depth in this post. I don't find his conversation with Harry out of character in the least... but I know many people did, so maybe it helps to have some small window into Remus' feelings regarding whether you can love someone and still 'subject' them to you, with the full sense of burden that ( ... )

Hm. You bring up some very interesting points that I didn't consider before.

I will certainly go and read that post. Thank you.

Hell, forget the 8th book - why not make a complete 7th one?

All she had to do was add paragraphs here and there or even sentences!

The entire R/T dilemma could maybe be solved by a sentence or two when Harry discovers them dead in the Great Hall. Something like "Harry heard Mrs. Weasley recount the way Remus had sacrificed himself for his new wife and Tonks in her grief jumped carelessly into the fray." Or how Remus died while admonishing Tonks for not being at home recovering from the birth and how he left her there because her safety was paramount.

I mean, thats the problem with this book from a literary standpoint - all of these little loose ends are easily tied up so it just makes the book seem sloppy and unpolished.

I think Remus was his caring, worried self during the book. I'm not mad at him, or anything, it's just in his nature to act that way (even though JK made him an asshole)... I believe that, in fact, the Remus/Tonks relashionship could have been further explored, at least I felt that a lot of things were left out. I'd rather have a whole chapter on their relashionship than the crapilogue (I found the last two chapters equally bad) - don't get me wrong - I loved the book and it's my favourite. =)
Still, I don't think that Remus had any serious relashionship before Tonks's. I don't know whether JK believed in the whole "werewolves mate for live" thingie, but it could be! Then, at least I'm happy that he was happy, even if only for a few months. *sheds a tear*
By the way, the only moment when I cried during DH was when Remus told Harry that he'd love to watch Teddy grow up... *sniff*
