spoil_me_dh , though I am interested to hear the opinions from a Remus-centric community.
I want to be clear: this isn't an attempt to disprove the Remy/Tonks cannon--on the contrary, I think they could be rather sweet together if the circumstances had been better--but merely an attempt to clarify, through another's opinion, what truly lay between Remus and Tonks.
Aye, so: what do you think is the true, cannon nature of Remy's feelings for Tonks?
One minute they're makin' bacon and the next Remus is confessing that marrying her was a horrendous mistake that I took with equal parts of "Oh shits, I just made a werebaby" and "I never loved her"; later, he seemed overjoyed by the birth and it was mentioned that he moved in, again, with Tonks, but no emotions towards his wife was ever stated on his behalf. While at the Sea Cottage thinger, he didn't talk of his love for both his wife and baby--if memory serves, he didn't mention Tonks at all besides, "She's fine" or something like that.
In addition, their in-book relationship has always been very rocky and strange to me, like a crush or semi-infatuation. They remind me of that abusive Senior couple you have in High School that grinds up on the lockers moaning, loud, about "love" and "commitment"; then the chick comes into Monday's homeroom with a bloodied eye. :\
This all left me wondering as to whether or not he simply accepted the fact that he knocked-up up a shape-shifter and continued their life only on behalf of their child or if he really came to love her in the end...?
My money is on the former, as anyone would be excited for a birth, but, then again, JK might have tried to very, very, very subtly allude to mutual affection when she had them die together.
Or they both could have just been hit at separate times, in separate places with little love between them.
All in all, Remy's character flaws were a confusing mess to me. Though a werewolf, I always thought that he would have talked out all the risks with his partner before he went and got some ass.
His cowardice was a shock.
Anyway, just curious for more opinions. :D
