Uuuugh, Charlie, how so insecure and adorable for it? This really gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, especially the end. :)

OMG I LOVE IT SO MUCH! melissima October 24 2009, 22:05:54 UTC
When they're together Charlie's louder, more reckless, desperate to impress, to be someone he's not. He drinks a little more than he should, takes stupid risks that rarely pay off.

Like this one, because here he is lying in the snow, his head pounding, dizziness ringing in his ears. He lies still, eyes smarting, hearing Billy's approach, waiting for the laughter, the humiliation.

This is an *amazing* bit of insight, spot-on for how it was in my mind when I wrote the original. Well, I hadn't thought of the laughing part, but Holy Cow is it true. Brothers do indeed laugh at you when you fall on your ass, regardless of how much it hurt. (I bet you can guess how I know.)

Thank you so much for writing this fic. I always hoped somebody would dig into "Sleepless", and this remix is lovely.

ETA: Thank You So Much, sour_louise! /smishes/

Guh, this was so good! The original is actually my all time favorite Billy/Charlie drabbles. And your interpretation of Charlie's thoughts and feelings here was just a brilliant brilliant accompaniment that only enhanced the original. Beautiful job!

First off, yay for picking Charlie/Billy! That pairing and the original drabble are personal favorites.

Second, the laughter/humiliation is a brilliant insight. I hadn't thought about it before, but I would imagine Charlie's still sensitized to little failures in social situations leading to being laughed at, especially in high school, and he probably has Don laughing burned into his brain, unable to be forgotten. Poor guy.

There were a few lines I really liked in particular:

"Are you sure you've got the right brother?" he asks, faking a smile, feeling small and needy.

When they're together Charlie's louder, more reckless, desperate to impress, to be someone he's not. He drinks a little more than he should, takes stupid risks that rarely pay off.

"I'm sorry," he says, and he's not talking about the fall. "I'm so sorry."

Nicely done!

This is so beautiful, dealing with Charlie's insecurities and having Billy reassure him. I loved how he said he picked the right brother.
