The first thing that Jack noticed when he arrived were the blue boxes. How could he not? He was surrounded by the things on all sides, as far as the eye could see. Well, maybe not quite, but close enough. He looked around for a moment, clearly annoyed, then looked down at the wrist strap on his right arm; the small piece of technology, no longer ( Read more... )

She still walked. Every day.

Universe endangered, yes. But also appreciative of what remained, around them. Returning to the cluster of blue boxes, with stood like exotic flowers on Sarah Jane's lawn, Reinette could not help but smile.

Jack Harkness, once again. Or some version there of. Obviously one that had not been with them before.

If only because of the hat.

"Hello Jack."

Jack turned as he heard someone call his name, hand already on the sonic blaster in his holster. He relaxed when he saw who it was, but only just slightly. "Have me met? I'd think I remember talking to a beauty like you"

She looked harmless enough, but looks could be deceiving.

A smiled teased at Reinette's mouth, a soft half-tilt that was a more recent acquisition in her displaced life. "I cannot decide if I am flattered that you think me memorable, or offended that would be how I am remembered."

There is more wit than warning in her tone, because Reinette learned from an early age how to craft her appearance. If the efforts are appreciated, how can she not be pleased?

"The truthful answer is that I have met you, but you have not met me."

"I could easily remember you for an entirely different reason, but at the moment all I know about you is your beauty" Jack was a charmer, and he knew it. It became almost second-nature now, smiling flirtasiously and complimenting the person. He normally had a reason, some sort of motive, but he still found himself doing it simply for fun.

"That's the issue with time traveling; your timeline never really goes in a straight line"

The Doctor tilted his head and approached the familiar man. He might not be the Doctor he remembers, even if he knows the other Doctor. It could be the shoulder-length hair, it could be the Frenchman's clothes, or it could be the silver cane and limp.

Or it could just be that he looks really, really unhappy to see Jack.

"Captain."

Jack had heard him approach, so he wasn't all that surprised when he heard the Doctor speak. He turned towards the source of the sound, only to make a face as he caught sight of the other man. "Is that where I landed, France? Early 18th century by the look of it too" This Jack, a human Jack, something the Doctor might have noticed, was never very fond of early France.

Too much proper etiquette and not enough alcohol, in his opinion.

"Nope, sorry. London, 2008. They call them the 'dog days of summer' and I haven't a clue why. Off again, shouldn't be too terribly surprised." The irritable tone to Jack's voice was something the Doctor found immediately endearing.

"So, guessing you're a new arrival, then. For the record, no, I'm probably not your Doctor. Never am. No idea why I'm always around to help out the new arrivals." He sighed and turned around to limp back towards the house.

"Come on, Captain Harkness."

Jack stood his ground, frowning at the Doctor. He was tempted to reach for his gun but decided against it, not just yet. "Care to explain who you are and how do the hell you know me?"

"Jack!" He wasn't sure from a distance, but when he got closer, John was definite. However instead of getting too close, he approached with caution. That last interaction with Jack had seemed a lot like a goodbye, at least on Jack's side. John had no interest in being shot.

"What brings you to the most boring place in the remains of the universe?"

There was a voice he recognized. Jack grinned as he caught sight of John, hand falling from the wrist strap as he approached. In a matter of moments he'd closed the space between them, kissing John hungrily for a few seconds before finally responding. "Tell me this isn't where they stuck you for rehab, because I'm going to be really annoyed if they decided to send me here just to keep you company"

Confused but never one to question such an enthusiastic greeting, John returned it in kind.

His next response was to punch Jack square on the jaw. "So sorry, it's Earth. I'm out of rehab, which you know. In fact, last time I saw you, you made it pretty clear you wanted nothing more to do with me. Twice, actually."

Jack touched his jaw for a moment, never even hesitating before punching John square in the stomach with just as much force. "Sure as hell doesn't look like any place on Earth I've ever been. And what, did your time spent in the nut house make you loose it? Last time we saw each other we were busy screwing in your room while someone else waited to take you to rehab"

Anna had just come out of the TARDIS she still occupied, despite its owner having vanished, to find a person she actually recognized standing in the yard looking hopelessly lost.

"Captain Harkness!" she said, delighted, shutting the door to the blue box behind her. "I mean, Jack." She squinted at him curiously. "Is it... you?"

Jack raised am eyebrow as he watched her step out of one of the blue boxes, deciding he would have to ask about that later. Right now there were more important things to figure out. "Have I
met you before?"

There was a chance that she knew an older version of himself, but Jack got the feeling this wasn't the case.

Her smile wilted a little. Damn. Still not the Jack Harkness who had hired her. "You haven't," she replied. "Not here, at any rate. I'm Anna Walsh." She stuck out her hand.

Jack gave her a curious look, taking her hand and shaking it. "It's a pleasure to meet you then, Anna Walsh"

"London," a voice said. It was Jack, sitting on the porch (again), looking at the newcomer curiously. "That was quite an entrance there."

Jack took a moment to look around "Wouldn't happen to be the 27th century then, would it? I know they went through a cloning phase then" He turned to face him and smiled, winking. "First impressions are always the most important"

"Ah, I believe it is the 21st century," Jack replied. "You're a time traveler, then?"

"Only a couple of thousand years off, then" Jack mused, somewhat annoyed by the apparent miscalculation "You could say that"
