strange how potent cheap music is

Everyone loves sunsets. I've got a sunset photo on Flickr, which some of you may (or may not) remember. It has every cliche in the book - waves rumbling across the frame, the low duck-yolk sun catching the Statue of Liberty in silhouette and setting her torch on fire ( Read more... )

That's a fantastic sunset, but it looks slightly posterized. You might want to lessen the JPEG compression or something.

Yeah, funny, but it was already unusually lossy when I downloaded it to my computer. I suppose I was asking for it, shooting in JPG, but the difference in quality usually isn't that noticeable...

Heh, I wish mine had a non-JPEG setting. My camera's pictures are alway hideously awful quality when I download them from the camera. Luckily, they're also about 6 times the size at which I actually post them, so by the time I shrink them that much, the quality problems are no longer evident. (Shrinking them that much also gives me plenty of leeway to correct the problems caused by my own lack of photography skills, too.)

They seemed all right to me... Is there some image resolution setting on your camera that you're perhaps not aware of? Your camera's way newer than mine, so image quality and megapixels really should be the last of your worries.

Thanks! Hardly any post-production, which is the way I like it. Just nudged the black point in Curves a wee bit, that's all.

Thanks. And ha, don't underestimate them - the Terry Jacks rendition of the song was supposedly the first record Kurt Cobain ever bought.

I would love to crop that photo of yours into 'widescreen'... heh. Stereotypical, I know... I know.

Bonus points for shooting a 'nice' sunset in Singapore - correct me if I'm wrong [and suaku], but it's tough to get something so nice here [that's why some holiday photos/videos shoot themselves... the sun/sand/beach/grass is already so nice, you just need to anyhow shoot and VOILA 'wah, your pictures so nice!!!!!']

That was a.... weird cover. I like my Nirvana, but 'Seasons in the Sun' is always gonna be a boyband tune for me! Hee.

Yeah, why not try? Would be interesting to see how you envision it. Me, if I were to shoot this again, I'd actually do it in portrait, to get more height with those clouds.

I've had a nice sunset or a few here - posted many moons earlier - so I guess I count myself lucky. Actually, I almost find it a tad easier to shoot here than overseas, if only because I'm more familiar with the light, the scale and proportion of the buildings, everything. Subject-wise it may be a bit more boring but it always pays to keep one's eyes open - and unless it's the Mediterranean that you're swanning around in, you aren't going to be guaranteed stunning light for your shots anyway. ;)

And there was always a bit of a boyband member in Kurt Cobain eh.

Funny what two black bars can do... it looks as if I've got a wider lens than I actually do! Yet comparing it to the original photo, I now see it was all an illusion. Such a trickster! Hah.

Hey, did I miss that amassed photos post somewhere?
