I think what it boils down to is that I feel like they had all of the ingredients there for the perfect bittersweet, beautiful ending, but the recipe just didn't come out right.*nods

I am feeling a little better, thanks. But it's only really because I've been happily living in denial. If I focus too hard on thoughts about it, or think about watching it, I can feel the achy trembly stuff coming back.
So I'm suppressing! Yay for defense mechanisms. :)
That's exactly how I felt. The ending wasn't as disappointing as I first thought it would be, but it wasn't that great either. The sadness was compounded since this was the last episode, and every deed had a sense of finality to it, especially Brian being alone and Justin flying away.
I also agree that Brian had grown a lot, but they didn't show it very well. They made it seem like he was a totally new person, but that's quite unlikely and somewhat disturbing to many of the viewers. (omg, OOC?)
Oh well, they're just bad at being subtle, aren't they?

HAHAHAHAHA!
I was very confused at the end, but this sounds like a good take-away :)
