( fandom student application )

PLAYER INFORMATION
PLAYER: (Your name/nickname.)
AGE: (We require all players to be at least 14 years old.)
CONTACT: AIM, MSN, Plurk, e-mail, etc.
PERSONAL LJ: (Optional.)
CHARACTERS PLAYED: (All current active characters at Reims Academy.)

CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: (Character's name.)
CANON: (Character's canon.)
CANON REFERENCE: (Link to appropriate site.)
AGE: (Characters should be a minimum of 12 years old. 10-11 year old characters can be apped with sufficient background to warrant skipping grades, but these are on a case-by-case basis. We highly encourage characters to be of the proper age for middle/high school.)

GENDER: (This is both the mental and physical genders for the character. Should you wish to genderswap the character from canon, this is where you include that information.)

YEAR IN SCHOOL: (MS1-3, HS1-3)

ENROLLMENT: (How is the character affording to attend this prestigious boarding school - wealthy family, scholarship, sponsor, etc)

APPEARANCE: (Everyone is human, so this is especially important for canon non-human characters. We will accept an image link in place of a written description except in cases of canon non-human characters or characters that are significantly modified appearance-wise from canon, such as with a genderswap or aging. In those cases, we require a paragraph describing the character's appearance.)

PERSONALITY: (Don't skimp here! This is the most important part of the application as it tell us who the character is and will be what the samples are judged with. This section should be three to four substantial paragraphs, but feel free to give us more!)

COMPUTER APTITUDE: (This is a very important question as it allows the mods and other players to assess the computer skills of the character for purposes of filters and hacking as stated in the FAQ)

AU HISTORY: (Focus on the major events and try to keep it under 2000 words if possible.)

SAMPLES
(Samples are IC examples of characterization and writing skill used to help the mod team determine whether the player has a good grasp on the character and the setting. We require two separate samples - one intranet/1st person sample and one log/3rd person sample. Because we understand samples are difficult for some players to produce on the fly, we offer two options for each individual sample as well as a few prompts to help with them. All samples must be set in the Reims Academy setting. This is an AU setting, so samples of the established canon character tell us nothing about the AU character being apped.)

INTRANET/1ST PERSON SAMPLE: (This is a sample of how the character talks and interacts with others on the school's intranet. There are two options available for this sample.

  • Provide a stand-alone sample of something the character would post on the Intranet that others would respond to. Please make this sample approximately 7-10 sentences long.

  • You may set up a thread with another character in reimsapplicants or another musebox and link the completed sample in the application. Please note that a linked sample must still be representative of how they will communicate online. With this option, we require a minimum of 10 individual comments from the character being apped. As always, we reserve the right to ask for more if we feel there isn't enough characterization/interaction to properly judge the sample.
Here are some sample prompts if needed (but not required): Announcing your candidacy for the Student Counsel elections, Planning for the upcoming trip to the mainland, Receiving a care package from home, Spreading gossip about a teacher/student.

Note! Please avoid the standard arrival sample. We've all seen it a thousand times and, really, the character is just in high school, not whisked off to Narnia, given a Pokeball and told to go capture Aslan. Give us something different and interesting in the Reims Academy setting.)

LOG/3RD PERSON SAMPLE: (This is a sample in 3rd person prose of how your character thinks, what drives the character and the reactions both external and internal to situations. Introspection is key here as there is usually a dichotomy between the inner and outer workings of a character. There are two options available for this sample.

  • Provide a stand-alone sample of the character's situational thoughts and feelings. Please make this sample at least 200-300 words long.

  • You may set up a 3rd person prose log with another character in ReimsApplicants or another musebox and link the completed sample in the application. With this option, we require a minimum of 5-7 individual comments, dependent upon length, from the character being apped. As always, we reserve the right to ask for more if we feel there isn't enough characterization/interaction to properly judge the sample.
Here are some sample prompts if needed (but not required): Caught smoking behind the bleachers, Discovering the school newsletter has slandered your best friend, Deciding on your free electives, Working up the nerve to give your crush that love letter you spent hours writing.

Note! As with the Intranet sample, please avoid the standard arrival sample. You know the one we mean. We've all seen it a thousand times and, really, the character is just in high school, not whisked off to Narnia, given a Pokeball and told to go capture Aslan. Give us something different and interesting in the Reims Academy setting.)

HAVE YOU READ THE FAQ? (A simple Yes will not suffice here. Please answer the following question to show us you have, in fact, read the FAQ: Should you make the mistake of OOCly tagging an intranet post as '90% Unhackable', what will the mods unleash?)

THIS APPLICATION IS NO LONGER IN USE. SEE THE REVISED APPLICATION.
