That's so exciting to know Ryan has fans in China! And that you're translating this so they can read about what to expect and hope to see in the sport of swimming in 2012!

I do not want to be known as Ryan, “the backstroker”; or Ryan, the “swimmer of medleys”; or Ryan, “the racer”. I want to be everything. That is my goal.
I am so excited for the new swim season to begin.

I'm a little surprised to hear him say he wants to go head-to-head against Cielo. I guess I never really thought of Ryan as a straight-up sprinter like Cielo. More middle-distance with a wide range of versatility and a lot of strength and speed at more distances and strokes than most swimmers. But then a year ago I would have been surprised to hear him say he could go against Shanteau in the breaststroke, and look at him now - he's turned a "weak stroke" into one of his strengths. Interesting to see just how far he can go in the arc of his career.

If this is in fact true, I can't wait to see what Nationals in the future would be like, with Ryan, Michael, Cullen, Nathan, Matt, Jason, Garrett and other guys vying for spots in the event.
