Showing that both the voting public and the media available are changing, Randall Munroe won the 2014 Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story. The winning work was Time.
“The Ice Owl” by Carolyn Ives Gilman was an interesting and layered novella about the endless political cycles of humankind. Unfortunately, I disagree about a part of the moral/teaching that she embedded into the ending.
As a supporting member of this year's Worldcon (Chicon), I get access to the Hugo Voter's Packet. As you can see, this Big Bundle O' Stuff is well worth the $50 I spent on the membership... if you don't mind reading books electronically

Movement: A Short Story about Autism in the Future, by Nancy Fulda, was really well written. I enjoyed it for the story it told and the descriptions it offered in such a short amount of space and time.
