Eh, it sucks and I would have loved to see Wake, but then again there is only so much I can care when it comes to the All-Star game.

So much for Wake being the feelgood story of the all-star break! He is 42 years old I don't think he is going to make too many (if any) more all-star games. Let the man pitch!

In his defense, a) it was a close game, and, say, Victor Martinez catching Wake is a redonkulous passed ball threat and b) if it became another 15 inning overtime game, Wake would have been the best choice to get multiple innings going rather than having a position player warm up.

I mean, it's dumb, but if they're going to put home team advantage on the line (which they clearly shouldn't but so it goes), and the Red Sox are always a threat to make it to the World Series, I want the AL manager to play to win...

You get props for being the only person with a legitimately sensible mark in this thread.

Seriously, guys, the dude's 42 and was, without question, the worst pitcher at the entire game. Home field is riding on this shit, I want the manager to make sure we get a win, not trot out a league average pitcher who's only there because it's a feel good story and he's getting a fuckton of run support.

I love Wake as much as the next guy, but you guys are making us look like fucking pink hatters here.

In post-game comments, Maddon made it crystal clear that he, as I assumed, was saving Wakefield in case the game went into extra innings, and considering that 15 inning water-torture all-star game last year, that was a very real possibility.

Again, you'd rather have the well-rested knuckleballer, whose team is temporarily going for a six man rotation to go through 9th Inning to ??? (as lame party invitations would have it), than say Papelbon, Nathan, Rivera, or Fuentes going three or four innings because there's no one left in the bullpen. I mean, if you thought teams were pissed at the WBC...

Agreed. I mean I was bummed not to see him - but I was actually also kind of bummed not to see Verlander, Beckett, and several others. It was a 2:31 game and they just weren't going to get many people in.

Everyone also need to remember that Wake was happy just to be chosen and took a "Que sera, sera" (sorry about the lack of accent marks) attitude with regard to pitching in the All-Star game or not. Yes, he may not pitch much longer for the Red Sox, but I think he was honored just to be chosen before his pitching days are over.
