At last, she stirs (and possibly purrs)

Earlier this week I finished reading The Easter Parade by Richard Yates. It's a relentlessly miserable novel and I wouldn't particularly recommend it*, but it did have one line that I particularly liked: at one point, the female lead meets a man with "a voice that made her want to curl up and ride in his pocket like a kittenOkay, maybe it's not ( Read more... )

Oh, that is a lovely line! Jon Pertwee and John Le Mesurier for me, obviously.

John Le Mesurier would be an excellent one. It'd be like living in an episode of Bod!

Oooo, I can happily sit and listen to Denis Lawson speaking at any time. Such a lovely purring voice. I'd curl up on his lap any time :)

And Paul Darrow, especially when playing Avon, has a voice like a big mug of really good hot chocolate, with piles of whipped cream on top.

For old-school voices, just listen to Claude Rains. You never saw his face in 'The Invisible Man' - he carried that movie entirely with his beautiful voice.

I think Cary Grant would be my old-school pick. He'd know how to treat a kitten right.

Voice?

Noel Fielding (though if I was hiding in his pocket he'd need a much larger cape or poncho and I wouldn't be able to see his eyes, so...)

Richard Armitage

& I'm with Fran in THAT episode of Black Books with Peter Serafinowicz.

I get the impression that if you told Noel Fielding to wear a poncho covered in pockets with kittens in them, he'd almost certainly think it was a REALLY brilliant idea. This probably gives him a natural advantage in this game.

Which picture are you looking at? :¬) If it's the one above your comment, that would be Russell Tovey. :¬)

I agree about Benedict and Richard! :¬) I also love Sean Bean's voice, and Sean Harris's voice when he's speaking in his native East Anglian makes me melt. :¬) But for me, the voice most fitting this description belongs to Andy Serkis; especially after having met him at a few fan-events and totally losing track of what he was actually saying in favour of the sound of it, lol. :¬D

As long as Andy Serkis doesn't accidentally slip into a Gollum impression. I foresee a lot of bad kitten reactions to that one.
