just to clarify: is the tall building the thing that's been slowly rising within you all month? Or is it the urge to yank out the drive and chuck it the thing that's rising?

That HD issue seems strange. Are you allowed to partition at all? Chances are your previous OS did something stupid and you can just tell the installer to wipe all HD and make its own layout (with blackjack and hookers.)

The installer hangs when it prompts me with the error message. I didn`t want to wipe the hard drive but I may not have the option.

I've got 4 boxes running Ubuntu, and i lurv it.

given the amount of time you guys spend hacking away anyways, I can't imagine it could be MORE problematic.

Also, you can always install Ubuntu on the smaller drive, and mount the second drive once you're sure you're happy with it, and copy over any info from it that you need.
