The Other Boleyn Girl

Dressed up and went to go see the midnight showing of The Other Boleyn Girl last night down at Universal with the girls. We all enjoyed it, even if it was horribly inaccurate (even compared to the book, mind you). But alas, it still wasn't Anne of the Thousand Days ( Read more... )

I thought the movie was absolute garbage. I enjoyed it as a story, but it was NOT even in the realm of reality. And the characters were all horribly caricatured. My mother and I laughed out loud when the Duke of Norfolk asked whether Henry had 'had' Mary. WTF man! They made Norfolk out to be this like disgusting growling pervert or something! It was ridiculous. I mean the time line of the story was just completely whacko from the beginning, there was no point in even trying to line up the movie with the real events. They completely missed half the most important people in the whole story, and as you mentioned, shrunk the courtship and battle with Rome into like 10 minutes. And what's with people always depicting Henry as raping Anne? What's that supposed to prove? UGH. It's just sad that people will think this is the real story (when we all know AotTD is the REAL story, hahaha ( ... )

Oh indeed. Did you read Cleolinda's rant about it? It made me laugh, but everything she says is so true.

You know, I kind of went in there unexcited and prepared for some disaster, so the awfulness of the movie didn't really bother me so much, but the more time I have to think about how they altered reality or even the book - which I loved even for it's inaccuracies - just makes me dislike it more and more as time goes on... and it's a shame. I really did want it to be good.
