The Other Boleyn Girl

Dressed up and went to go see the midnight showing of The Other Boleyn Girl last night down at Universal with the girls. We all enjoyed it, even if it was horribly inaccurate (even compared to the book, mind you). But alas, it still wasn't Anne of the Thousand Days.

Costumes were pretty though. There's a couple dresses I want. And for some reason, this movie made me stop and admire Catherine of Aragon, which I normally don't carry any sympathy for. I liked the actress who played her, even if she was only in about 5 minutes of the whole movie.

I'll cut the rest for those who haven't seen it yet - but you probably already know the story anyway. :D

For the book being from Mary's point of view, this certainly wasn't. They cut so much of her out, and you never saw any of her time away from court or falling in love with William Stafford. They didn't even mention in passing that her first husband died at all! He was just sent away from court and forgotten entirely.

Henry Percy was the ugliest man I've ever seen. And William Stafford looked like he was 15 at most. Eric Bana is nice looking and all, but... I've seen better Henrys.

Anne didn't even last 1,000 days. When she's killed, Elizabeth is still an infant, which hardly makes logical sense, considering she did have a stillborn child and a few years between there. And then Mary takes her to live with her at the end, which I don't recall happening in the book. - Mary also suddenly has two children of her own at the end, instead of only the one Henry!bastard. (In the book, she has 3!)
The whole half-decade of planning and running back and forth to Rome was pretty much resolved in a week. Although, granted, that is the "dull" period of the story, when they're just waiting... but AotTD did it nicely. Additionally, as slow moving as the beginning of the movie was, it would have lasted 10 hours instead of 2.

Natalie Portman was alright. She has rather large teeth, or so it seemed when she smiled, but, I have no real complaints. She was quite a bitch. :) Nevertheless... Genevieve Bujold was much better <3

Oh and Jane Parker... That bitch. But.. TOTALLY WRONG BOOK, PHILIPPA! :D

It's also amusing to listen to the commentary by others after the movie, talking like they know their history, and how Elizabeth would be the perfect movie to watch after this...yadda yadda.

Edit: Also! Sex and the City preview! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! Can't wait. :)
